Ralph Wall, 87

February 14, 2014

Ralph E. Wall, 87, of Columbia City, died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at his home.
He was born Nov. 5, 1926 in Celina, Ohio a son of Ermine S. and Nora (Miller) Wall.
As a young boy, the family moved to Jefferson Township. He graduated from Jefferson Center High School.
On Nov. 24, 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II.
He was honorably discharged July 29, 1946.
He retired from International Harvester in 1985.
On Jan. 30, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Wilson.

Jeanette Carpenter, 83

Jeanette A. Carpenter, 83, of Huntington, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Jeanette was born on Aug. 15, 1930, in Columbia City, and is the daughter of Ralph and Iva (Miles) Morrolf.
She graduated in 1948 from Coesse High School in Columbia City.
Jeanette married Donald L. Carpenter June 1, 1952, in Whitley County and worked at Culp CPA in Huntington.
She was a member of Faith Community Church of God as well as the Missionary Society both in Huntington.

Frank Williamson, 81

Frank Duane Williamson, 81, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Saturday Feb. 8, 2014, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Mich.
He was born Nov. 8, 1932, in Payne, Ohio, a son of the late Franklin and Mittie Williamson.
Frank resided in Sturgis since 2002, coming from Alabama. Before moving to Alabama, he lived in Columbia City for several years.
On April 5, 2002, he married Joyce (Sansone) Hickman at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Goshen.

Robert Howard, 83

February 10, 2014

Robert E. Howard, 83, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:23 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.
Born Jan. 24, 1931, in Grant County, he was the son of Thomas and Mabel (Holloway) Howard.
Bob resided in Swayzee and Lithonia, Ga. before moving to Columbia City in 1993. He graduated from Upland High School with the Class of 1949.
On Jan. 28, 1984, he married Sarah C. Cunningham. Bob was the founder and former owner of Howard Plumbing & Heating located in Swayzee.

Judi Vaught, 50

Judi L. Vaught , 50 passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, in Fort Wayne.
Born in Fort Wayne, Judi graduated from Columbia City Joint High School and Indiana University of Indianapolis, and was attending Indiana Tech Law School.
Surviving relatives include her mother, Shirley (Vance) Clem of Fort Wayne; brothers, Jack (Lureen) Vaught of Columbia City and John Coleman of Endicott, N.Y.; sisters, Teresa Steinbacher, Susan Coleman of Fort Wayne; seven nieces and nephews, 18 great-nieces and nephews and many special friends.

Rosalie Kelley, 82

Rosalie Joann Kelley, 82, died unexpectedly at 11:47 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, where she had been admitted early that evening.
She was born Jan. 27, 1932, in Columbia City, the daughter of Timothy and Bessie (King) Bair.
She has spent her lifetime in Columbia City, attending Columbia City High School.
She married Roger Eugene Kelley Nov. 24, 1956, at the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene.

Gabrielle Jones, 19

Gabrielle L. “Gabby” Jones, 19, a resident of Churubusco, fell asleep in the arms of her Loving Savior Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
She had suffered with health issues for an extended period, but had been more seriously ill since September.
Gabby was born in Fort Wayne July 2, 1994, a daughter of Kregg A. and Lanette L. (Stienbarger) Jones, and spent all of her life in Churubusco.
She graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 2013, where she excelled in softball, volleyball and basketball.

Corey McDaniel, 28

February 7, 2014

Corey A. McDaniel, 28, a resident of rural Churubusco, passed away at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne surrounded by his family. He had been a patient there since Monday.
Corey was born in Fort Wayne Oct. 24, 1985, the son on Donald R. and Marlene (Wetzel) McDaniel.
He moved from Fort Wayne to Churubusco as a child with his parents, and was a member of the Churubusco High School Class of 2004.
Employed at Complete Controls in Fort Wayne during the past two years, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and his cats.

Arthur Parry Jr., 90

Arthur W. Parry Jr., 90, of Fort Wayne, passed away Feb. 5, 2014, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, with calling one hour prior at Plymouth Congregational Church 501 W. Berry St. Fort Wayne.

Helen Avins, 86

Helen E. Avins, 86, of rural Columbia City, died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since 2010.
She was born July 14, 1927 in Whitley County, a daughter of Paul and Bessie (Kalb) Raber.
Her formative years were spent in Laud where she assisted her father with the operation of Raber Grocery.
She graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1945.
On May 1, 1954, she was united in marriage to James Westley Avins.
They made their home in Laud. Mr. Avins died Feb. 19, 1990.
