Janice Forster 93, of Rockford, Ill. and formerly a 50-year resident of Cherry Valley, Ill. died peacefully Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2013, in Presence Cor Mariae.
Janice was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Columbia City, the daughter of Dr. Benjamin and Vera Isabell (Refner) Pence.
Norman Dale Gordon, 84, of Columbia City, passed away unexpectedly at 8:54 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at his residence.
Born July 5, 1929, in Tipton, he was the son of Edward and Mabel (Geiger) Gordon.
Norman grew up in several locations, but spent a great deal of his childhood in Churubusco and graduated from North Webster High School with the Class of 1947.
He married Margie Alice Gaerte Dec. 24, 1950, at Rev. Marion Shroyerâ€™s parsonage in Columbia City.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served as a weapons mechanic.
LeAnn Rosen, 66, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at her home after an extended illness due to cancer.
Born on Sept. 13, 1947, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Kenneth C. and Judith (Fry) Hosler.
She graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1965. Upon her graduation she immediately entered the insurance field working for more than 25 years, first for Keith Dowell, John Lefever and currently was employed as an insurance agent for Star Insurance.
Rachel M. Verba, 89, formerly of Columbia City, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Liz, in Noblesville where she had been residing since August 2012.
She was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Whitley County, a daughter of Leo and Huldah J. (Palmer) Miller.
Her formative years were spent in Richland Township. She graduated from Larwill High School and completed her nurseâ€™s training at Ball State.
Kenneth James Trout, 81, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 18, 1932, in Scottsbluff, Neb., a son of the late Clifford J. and Evelyn E. (Howell) Trout.
His formative years were spent in west Nebraska. The family then moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he graduated from high school. He received a Bachelorâ€™s of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona and a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University.
He served in the U.S. Air Force until 1956.
Carl Raymond Sands, 84 of Silver Lake, passed away at 11:47 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in his residence.
He was born April 3, 1929, in Warsaw, to John Isaac and Eva (Shilling) Sands. He married Edythe Mary Didier in Fort Wayne April 26, 1952, who survives.
At the age of 16, Carl traveled to Poland for a project in which he transported cattle donated by American farmers.
In 1949, Carl went out west for the Wheat Harvest. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1951-53. He played baseball for the U.S. Army during his time of service.
Grace Ellen Crabill, 88, a resident of rural Churubusco and widow of Jack E. Crabill, passed away at 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City. She had been in failing health for some time and had been more seriously ill since September.
Mrs. Crabill was born March 8, 1925, in Eel River Township, a daughter of John Thomas and Marian Etta (Rosenogle) McCullough. She spent her formative years in Churubusco, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1943.
Kevin W. Craig, 49, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:18 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at his home. Born Oct. 1, 1964, in Columbia City, he was the son of Dale LeRoy Craig, Sr. and Marilyn Sue (Pippenger) Craig.
He attended Whitko High School and worked at C&R Plating for many years. He was a member of Oak Grove Church of God and Whitley County Coon Hunters Club.
Charleene Magdalene Heintzelman, 93, of Columbia City, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor, Columbia City, where she had been a resident for the past three months.
She was born June 27, 1920, in Jefferson Township, a daughter of the late Earl S. and Laura (Lower) Kaufman. She graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1938.
On June 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ross V. Heintzelman. They made their home in Jefferson Township. Mr. Heintzelman died April 3, 2006.
Donald â€śJackâ€ť Coffelt, 72, of Columbia City, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Christine; daughters, Helena (Fred) Palmer, Julia (Chris) Sheckler and Carol (Eugene) Christman; stepchildren, Jennifer, Julie, Douglas and Brian; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
To honor Mr. Coffeltâ€™s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
