Joyce M. Bair, 90, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at The Oaks, Columbia City.
Born Oct. 9, 1923, in Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of the late J.W. Hiscutt and Edith Gilbert.
She was a cosmetologist, electrologist and electro pigmentation practitioner. She was a member of Gethsemaine Luthearn Church.
Surviving relatives include her niece, Brenda Bogess of Churubusco; brothers, Frank C. Hiscutt of Fort Wayne and Judson A. Hiscutt of Largo, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leo E. Bair.
Thomas McCullough, 80, passed away on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Dekalb Health in Auburn.
He was born in Whitley County to John Thomas and Marion Etta (Rosenogle) McCullough on Dec. 29, 1932.
He honorably served his country from 1950-53 in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 11, 1954, he married Judith Hire at Nazarene Church in Churubusco. He retired from Dana Corporation with more than 42 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering, his grandchildren and friends at Dari-Point in Ligonier.
Alberta Ruth Malcolm, 90, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Coventry Meadows in Fort Wayne.
Alberta was born March 12, 1923, in Churubusco, a daughter of LeRoy and Lilah (Brumbaugh) Veazey.
On July 25, 1942, she was married in Columbia City to Maurice E. Malcolm.
She was employed at General Electric, as an inspector and retired in 1983 after 33 years.
Roger D. Knight, 51, of Columbia City, passed at his home in the arms of his wife and surrounded by family at 2:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013.
He was born Sept. 1, 1962, in Hazard, Ky. a son of Russell and Ruby (Lewis) Knight. He completed his education at Columbia City Joint High School.
On Aug. 31, 1985, he was united in marriage to Roxanne E. DeYoung. They made their home in Columbia City until 1988 when they moved to their at Big Lake. In June 2012 they returned to Columbia City.
Douglas E. Lewis, 65, of rural Columbia City, passed away quietly at home, surrounded by his loving family at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. He had been battling cancer.
He was born Feb. 24, 1948 in Huntington, a son of the late Bob E. and Doris Jean (Bitzer) Lewis.
He was raised in Huntington attending Horace Mann Elementary School and graduating from Huntington High School in 1966. He completed his apprenticeship to become a journeyman tool and die maker in Fort Wayne.
Verlin E. â€śBuckâ€ť Gamble, 76, of Whitely County, passed away at his home at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013.
Born April 28, 1937, in Whitley County, he was the son of Omer E. and Opal (Edgington) Gamble.
Buck was a lifetime resident of Whitley County. He graduated from Washington Township School with the Class of 1955.
On Nov. 24, 1956, he married Delores Ilene Alexander in Columbia City. He worked at Anderson Shroyer in Columbia City before working 25 years as a UPS delivery driver, retiring in 1992.
Ann G. Akpabio, 66, of Columbia City died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1947, and became the adopted daughter of DeWitt and Phyllis (Sheets) Schrader.
She spent her formative years in Washington Township. She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1965 and went on to become a registered nurse in 1968.
She started her work career with the American Red Cross in Fort Wayne and later transferred to Boston, Mass.
Carolyn J. Jones, 89, of Columbia City, died at 8:17 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Parkview Whitley Hospital. She was born July 19, 1924, in Kendallville, a daughter of Cyril G. and Audrey M. (Lawson) Kollman.
She grew up in Avilla until the late 1930s when the family moved to New Haven. She graduated from New Haven High School in 1943.
She was employed at Lincoln Life Insurance for 25 years, retiring in 1979. After retirement, she worked at the Otis Bowen Center for six years.
Dale N. Alles, 87, of Roanoke passed away at 3:47 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.
He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Whitley County, a son of Philip and Freida (Ness) Alles.
Survivors include three sons, a son-in-law, six daughters, a brother, a sister, 23 grandchildren and 21 great -grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington.
Carl A. Reaser, 62, of Columbia City, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013.
Born Feb. 26, 1951, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Ferdinand W. Reaser and Elda P. (Johnson) Price.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1968. After his training, he was sent to Da Nang Vietnam where he was wounded. After his recovery, he was stationed in South Korea and German before being discharged in September of 1974.
