Patrick Ryan Wesseler, 31, of Straughn, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born June 17, 1982, in Richmond, to Jamie and Susan (Singer) Wesseler.
Patrick graduated from Columbia City High School with the class of 2001 and received his bachelors degree in communications from the University of Southern Indiana in 2006.
He was a well known on-air radio personality, most recently as âBig Pâ on Evansville radio 103GBF. Patrick enjoyed competing in martial arts, watching movies, and writing stories and screenplays.
Lucille L. Lickey Staples, 97, formerly of Columbia City, died Sunday morning, Jan. 26, 2014, at Munroe Regional Hospital in Ocala, Fla.
She was born Jan. 17, 1917, in Washington Township, a daughter of Harmon and Opal (Miller)Lickey. Lucille graduated from Washington Center High School in 1937.
On March 27, 1938, she was united in marriage to William Donald Staples at the Eberhard Lutheran Church. They always made their home in Columbia City including their summer home at Big Cedar Lake. In 1984, they began spending their winters in Florida. Mr. Staples died April 1, 1988.
Harold E. âBussâ Alexander, 82, of rural Columbia City, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Parkview Oaks where he was admitted on Nov. 27, 2013.
He was born April 10, 1931, in Whitley County, a son of Harry C. and Beulah B. (Juillerat) Alexander. His formative years were spent in Washington Township. He completed his education at Washington Center High School.
In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Africa and Greenland during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with a Medal of Valor.
Kevin Mark Grant, 60, a resident of South Whitley, died at 7:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1954, in Battle Creek, Mich. a son of the late Elmer Leon and Elsie May (Edwards) Grant.
Susan âJuneâ (Zickel) Fuerste, age 84, of Columbia City, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, after a long illness, on Wednesday, January 22, 2014.
She was born in St. Louis, Mo. on June 13, 1929 to Albert Zickel and Dorothy (Quinn) Zickel.
June was a loving wife and homemaker. Through the years she was known as a mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, MeeMaw, âJune Bug,â and a friend. She enjoyed making braided rugs, beautiful pine cone wreaths and gardening.
Eris J. Hoover, 81, of Columbia City, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014.
She was born to the late Preston and Elizabeth Fisher on Nov. 21, 1932 in Richmond. She retired from Wayne University of Cosmetology where she was an instructor for several years.
She is survived by her sons, Donald Richison, Larry Richison, Russell Richison, and David Richison; daughter, Brenda Wright; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Eris was preceded in death by her siblings, Russell, Avis, and Melba June. No services are planned. Arrangements are made by Advantage Funeral Home.
Darol R. Eldridge, 82, of Larwill, passed away at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at his home.
Born Nov. 24, 1931, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Dennis and Nellie (Barber) Eldridge.
He attended Central High School graduating with the Class of 1949. Darol joined the U.S. Navy serving four years as an airplane mechanic. He married Marsha (Swearingen) Ihlenfeld on July 28, 1979. They lived in Fort Wayne and Huntertown before moving to Larwill in 1983.
Beverly J. Whiting, 80, of Columbia City, passed away at 8:52 am Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Millerâs Merry Manor in Columbia City. Born Aug. 23, 1933, in Frankfort, she was the daughter of Lester G. and Helen Lewellyn.
She graduated from Knox High School and Sept. 15, 1950, she married Raymond E. Whiting.
In 1968, she and Ray moved to LaGrange before moving to Columbia City in June of 1973. She had worked at the LaGrange and Whitley County Courthouses and the Whitley County License Branch. She had been a member of the Professional Business Women in LaGrange.
Mary Rosalind (Beeson) Kinney, 82, of Brownsburg, passed away Jan. 21, 2014.
She had been a teacher and elementary school administrator, serving schools in Springfield, Ohio, Cass County, Elkhart, and finally retiring from Danville Schools in 1988.
She received her education at Columbia City High School, Manchester College (BA) and Butler University (MS). She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Brownsburg.
Her husband of 47 years, Rev. Dr. Keith L. Kinney preceded her in death.
Gladys E. Gamble, 82, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:32 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Harbour Assisted Living of Ft. Wayne.
Born Feb. 2, 1931, in Jefferson Township, she was the daughter of Lee and Eva (Snepp) Walker.
She graduated from Washington Center High School with the Class of 1949. On Dec. 5, 1950, she married Dale J. Gamble.
She retired from Whitley Consolidated Schools as a cook with 30 years of service. She is a member of First Church of God.
