Catherine Croghan, 88

Catherine M. Croghan, 88, died Monday May 12, 2014, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rice Lake.
She was born in Fort Wayne July 3, 1925, a daughter of Michael and Helen Romanowski Krantz.
Catherine married Robert T. Croghan in 1945 in Fort Wayne and he preceded her in death in 1985.
She moved to this area in 2002 after spending 50 years in the Laud area. She was a housewife and homemaker, loved her flower gardens, grandchildren and did travelling in foreign countries.

Rosa N. Williamson, 89

Rosa N. Williamson, 89, of Columbia City, died Thursday morning, May 15, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Linda.
She was born November 3, 1924, in Bashi, Ala., a daughter of William and Alma (Snodgrass) Walker. Her formative years were spent in Bashi where she graduated from high school.
Dec. 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Williamson. They made their home in Bashi for a year before moving to Columbia City. Mr. Williamson died Aug. 18, 1983.

Melvin E. Kistler, 85

Melvin E. Kistler, 85, of Columbia City, died at 6:36 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was admitted on May 9.
He was born February 25, 1929, in Elkhart, a son of Ralph and Ruth (Patterson) Kistler. His formative years were spent in Whitley County. He completed his education at Larwill High School.

Janeal Wilson, 63

May 14, 2014

Janeal Hollingsworth Wilson, 63, a native of Columbia City and more recently of Clearwater, Fla., passed away Sunday evening, May 11, 2014, at Brookside Hospice House in Palm Harbor, Fla. following a brief illness.
Ms. Wilson was born in Columbia City May 6, 1951, a daughter of Robert L. and Lucille Rose Hollingsworth, and spent her formative years there.
She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1969, and from St. Francis College in 1985. She had lived in Fort Wayne for several years before moving to Florida.

Lowell Davis

Lowell Davis was born in Warsaw Aug. 26, 1945, and died March 31, 2014, in Waxahachie, TX.
Lowell leaves behind his wife, Karla; one son and three daughters; seven brothers and one sister.
Lowell also honored his country by serving in the U.S. Army for 20 years including multiple tours in Vietnam.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one bother and two sisters.
There will be a celebration of life for Lowell Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sidney Fire Station in Sidney.

Max H. Oswalt, 66

Max H. Oswalt, 66, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 12:28 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
Born Jan. 3, 1948, in Allen County, he was the son of Max D. and Frankie M. (Ross) Oswalt.
He attended South Side High School and took welding classes at Ivy Tech. Max was an avid animal lover. In his later years, he had been caring for horses on a ranch. He always had animals in his life, including exotic ones.

James “JJ” Jackson, 55

James R. “JJ” Jackson, 55, of Lena, Miss. passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014.
Born May 14, 1958, in Columbia City, he was the son of James R. Jackson, Sr. and Sandra S. (Wuertley) Harter.
He attended Whitko High School. Not liking to live in one area for a long time, JJ would travel around, and had lived in Indiana, Colorado, Arizona and most recently in Mississippi since 2006. He had been working on a farm in Lena.
He was a very independent person, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, riding his motorcycle and watching the Steelers play.

Clyde C. Gustafson, 83

Clyde Calvin Gustafson, 83, departed this life on Friday, December 13, 2013 in his residence.
He was born Dec. 4, 1930 in International Falls, Minnesota, the oldest child of the late Yngve and Edna (Beeching) Gustafson.  His family lived on the Rainy River in Baudette, Minn, until he was 11, and then moved to Indiana.
Preceding him in death, was his beloved wife, Janet Martin Gustafson, who died March 2, 2013 after becoming ill while visiting in California.  They were married October 22, 1949 at the Tunker Church of the Brethren.

Paul Zumbrum, 94

A private graveside service will be held for Paul E. Zumbrun, 94, of Columbia City, who has left this life, and gone to be with his Lord Sunday, May 11, 2014.
Surviving relatives include his wife of more than 68 years, Evelyn M. Zumbrun; four children, Linda M. Zumbrun of Wabash, Brent E. (Brenda) Zumbrun of South Bend, Nancy Leichty of Goshen and Jane A. Zumbrun of Columbia City; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Esther Poe, Doris Van Houten and Betty Rex.
