October 8th
ROCHESTER–– The last two undefeated Three Rivers Conference teams took the field in Rochester Friday night, Whitko taking the long trip to face the heavily favored Zebras.
After a close finish in overtime, the Wildcats pulled out the win, 27-24.
Rochester took a quick 14-0 lead in the beginning of the first half, but Whitko wasn’t going to let its undefeated record slip away that easy.
COLUMBIA CITY — Following last week’s emotional roller coaster of a win over East Noble, the concern was that the Columbia City Eagle football team might come out a bit flat for their senior night Northeast Hoosier Conference contest with the Carroll Chargers. The host Eagles erased those worries with a 24-point, first-half outburst on their way to a 31-24 win over the Chargers that was not as close as the score indicated.
GOSHEN — In four consecutive seasons of starting the football season off 7-0, one thing has still eluded Churubusco.
The Fairfield Falcons.
Despite an early lead Friday night, ’Busco had difficulties stopping the Falcons offense. Fairfield used 28 points in the second quarter to carry a slim halftime lead to victory 52-38.
Week eight on the schedule has had its series of bad luck, torment and curses for the No. 2 Eagles.
AKRON — This winning thing is beginning to repeat itself for Whitko boys’ cross country.
A season after claiming a Three Rivers Conference title, the Wildcats were back Thursday to defend it.
With all five runners in the top 10, Whitko had no trouble doing so with second-place Rochester not within reach 29-68.
COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Lady Eagle soccer team honored its eight senior members in grand style Thursday night, sending them off with a 3-1 senior night win over Fort Wayne South Side that fittingly was capped off by a goal from one of the “Elite Eight.”
FORT WAYNE — The postseason left a tall order for Columbia City boys’ soccer to take on Thursday night.
With regular season losses to two of the three teams joining them in the Homestead sectional, the Eagles faced one of those teams in Huntington North.
A relentless series of attacks by both teams took Columbia City into the second half with a one-goal deficit.
October 7th
Two weeks remain in the Indiana high school football regular season. Each of the three Whitley County teams have conference title deciding games this week with each in the hunt for a championship. Columbia City hosts Carroll on senior night. Churubusco travels to rival Fairfield while Whitko faces its toughest test yet at Rochester.

SOUTH WHITLEY — The Whitko Lady Wildcat volleyball team used a dominating performance at the net to take game one of their Three Rivers Conference match with the visiting Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings.
Unfortunately for the Lady Wildcats the Vikings came back to take the next three games to hand Whitko a 25-20, 14,-25, 23-25, 21-25 loss Wednesday night.
With the exception of game two, all the games were very closely played, with neither team able to establish a large lead.
October 6th
FORT WAYNE — Almost a week after suffering its first loss in the Northeast Hoosier Conference, the Columbia City volleyball team was looking to get back in the win column Tuesday night.
Facing an athletic Lady Chargers squad, Columbia City got off to a slow start quickly falling behind. The Carroll attack of Jenna Spadafora and Lauren Prachar dealt the Lady Eagles their second consecutive loss 7-25, 15-25, 15-25.
CHURUBUSCO — The Churubusco Lady Eagles were firing on all cylinders Tuesday night against the Lakeland Lady Lakers, picking up a 3-1 win.
In just their third win of the season, Lady Eagles head coach Trinda Goings found the right mix of energetic freshmen and experienced upperclassmen to pull out a conference win.
“We seem to be clicking, the older girls are accepting the young girls that we’ve moved up,” Goings said.
