CHURUBUSCO — The Indiana high school girls’ basketball season tipped off in Whitley County Tuesday night with Churubusco playing host to Garrett.
The Lady Eagles opened the season facing a Railroaders squad that went 16-9 last season.
Despite holding a slim lead early in the first quarter, Churubusco was plagued by 28 turnovers. A 13-point lead at halftime for Garrett ballooned into a lopsided victory 53-25.
Following a 50-7 loss Friday night to sectional champion Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, the 2010 Columbia City Eagles were officially part of the record books.
Despite coming up short for their first sectional title since 1993, the Eagles stack up well against some of the best teams Columbia City has put on a field in its 87-year history.
The 2010 Indiana high school cross country season was a good mix of veteran experience and newcomers for Whitley County.
The depth of talent in the county was shown in all-state honors named Monday by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.
Five runners in all were part of the list of the state’s best cross country runners. The county had its share of experience with Whitko senior Brian Menzie and Columbia City senior Renee Menzie.
