SYRACUSE — The weekend wrapped up with Columbia City swimming having its best all-around week so far of 2010. After competition Saturday, one team came home with a trophy while both finished in the top three.
The Lady Eagles were at the Wawasee Invitational with the likes of 10 other teams also competing.
Columbia City came away as the top team on the day winning the invitational by one point over the hosting No. 17 state ranked Lady Warriors 289-288.
SYRACUSE — Wawasee’s student section chanted, “Over-rated,” throughout the first three quarters of play, until the fourth quarter rolled around, they were silenced.
After trailing the entire game, Whitko’s Logan Irwin led his team to a comeback, leaving the Warriors stunned with their first loss of the season 80-75 Saturday night.
The Wildcats (4-1) were down by 11 points going into the fourth quarter, but out scored Wawasee (4-1) 31-15 in the final eight minutes to rally for the win.
FORT WAYNE — There is no question the Northeast Hoosier Conference has been one of the best in Indiana high school wrestling for several years.
Whether its Bellmont, Carroll or Columbia City, the NHC has always had state caliber wrestling.

LIGONIER — The season started late for Churubusco boys’ basketball but the Eagles first win didn’t take long.
On the road Saturday for the second game of its season, ’Busco wasted no time sealing up a 74-51 win by halftime over West Noble.
After dropping a season opening loss to Columbia City Tuesday, the Eagles hit the road to open the North East Corner Conference schedule.
