Three strokes hand Lady Eagles NHC loss, again

   COLUMBIA CITY — One close loss is bad enough but three consecutive is a bad habit Columbia City girls’ golf would like to break.
   Monday, the Lady Eagles came into their Northeast Hoosier Conference match at Eagle Glen Golf Course having lost their last two conference matches by four strokes or less.
   After holding a five-stroke lead with two golfers in the clubhouse against Carroll, Columbia City (3-5, 1-4 NHC) struggled to find another low score to put the match away.

City runs to second in Boiler country

   WEST LAFAYETTE — Four points was the difference for Columbia City cross country over the weekend.
   On Saturday, the Eagle squads traveled to Boiler country to take on a field with ranked teams.
   Despite having runners take the top two spots, the Lady Eagles  day was capped off in second-place, just four points behind No. 18 West Lafayette, 75-71.
   Ranked No. 23 themselves, the Lady Eagles beat out No. 7 Crown Point who finished four points back in third-place.

’Busco's Kyle combo runs wild at CN

   ALBION — Not only is the Churubusco football team undefeated for the season, but opponents have yet to find a way to score against the 2-0 Eagles.
   ‘Busco made the trip to Albion to face North East Corner Conference foe Central Noble.  Using an opportunistic defense and a potent offensive mix the Eagles handed the Cougars a 44-7 loss Friday night.

Johnson, Eagles run away against rival Whitko

   SOUTH WHITLEY — “Since the beginning of the year we were waiting for this game,” said Eagles QB Logan Rehrer.
   It was 2004 and Columbia City was a 1-9 team with the lone win coming against one of its most hated rivals.
   Almost six years later to the day, the Eagles went into South Whitley as an undefeated team and left as one.
   Friday night, the Eagles renewed a long lost rivalry with Whitko by jumping on the Wildcats early and junior Jacob Johnson finished it from there.

Rice nets four, Eagles overcome early deficit for NHC debut win

   DECATUR — The first half of the Northeast Hoosier Conference opener began with a 0-1 deficit for the Columbia City boys’ soccer team Thursday at Bellmont.
   Both the first and second halves ended with two goals by senior forward Devin Rice who rallied the Eagles to a 5-2 win, adding four more goals to his season total of nine in three games.
   Still looking for their first win of the season, the Braves opened with an early lead on a goal from Holland Herman.

Eagles extend win streak to four with 3-0 week

   COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City boys’ tennis team closed out an undefeated week by downing the Huntington North Vikings by a 5-0 score at the DeVol Field courts.
   The Eagles claimed the match without a lost set against the Vikings.
   In the varsity No. 1 singles match Dylan Hinen downed Huntington’s Phil Truit by a 6-1, 6-0 count. Travis Johnson kept Columbia City perfect by downing the Vikings’ Keith Stambaugh in the No. 2 singles contest, also by a 6-1, 6-0 score.

City slips up in NHC opener, falls to Squaws

   COLUMBIA CITY — This was not the way the Columbia City Lady Eagle soccer squad wanted to open up Northeast Hoosier Conference competition.
   Following a closely played first half, the Bellmont Squaws parlayed a goal off a free kick into three second half scores to hand the Lady Eagles a 3-0 defeat in Thursday night’s contest at the Max Gandy Athletic Field.

City bounces back beating Archers 3-0

   FORT WAYNE — Thursday night’s match at Fort Wayne South Side was just what the sports doctor ordered for Columbia City volleyball.
   Coming off two disappointing losses on the week against Angola and Garrett, the Lady Eagles rejuvenated their confidence with a three-game sweep of the Lady Archers 25-14, 25-17, 25-10.

Last Week: Columbia City beat Warsaw at home 35-16. Whitko won at home over Wawasee 20-0.
Last meeting: In 2004, Columbia City’s lone win of the season came at Whitko 27-20.
    Games Notes: Someone has to lose.

Whitko trumps ’Busco in three

   SOUTH WHITLEY — Two Whitley County rivals squared off Tuesday night when the Whitko Lady Wildcat volleyball squad played host to the Churubusco Lady Eagles.
   The Lady ’Cats used an experienced attack and good serving to take a 3-0 win over the visiting Lady Eagles.
   The Lady Wildcats took game one 25-17 behind a five-point service run by Whitko senior Rachelle Kessie.
