Doubles lifts City over BC

   COLUMBIA CITY — Usually power and athleticism win out in a sporting event.
   A win usually also follows when your top two singles players win in a tennis match.
   That was not the case for Bethany Christian when it traveled to DeVol Field courts Tuesday to take on Columbia City in boys’ tennis.
   Despite dropping the top two singles matches, the Eagles used a sweep of doubles play along with a undefeated streak by their No. 3 singles player to win a close 3-2 match.

Garrett steamrolls Columbia City 3-0

Columbia City's Samara Qureshi (4) sets up a hit for Paige Moore (11) during the first game of the Lady Eagles home match against Garrett Tuesday. Qureshi led City in digs, blocks and assists on the night. Garrett swept three games from Columbia City winning 25-16, 25-15, 25-17.

Columbia City inflicts tennis power on Whitko

   SOUTH WHITLEY – Sometimes when matches are lopsided the difficulty comes in playing to ones potential, and maintaining focus whether on the winning or losing side of those scores.
   That was the challenge facing both Columbia City and Whitko tennis teams when the two Whitley County rivals squared off Monday on the Whitko courts. A veteran Columbia City team took a 5-0 win over the Wildcats, limiting the hosts to five games total.

Late goal hands Eagles first loss of the season

   COLUMBIA CITY — Soccer is a sport of sudden changes. Despite being 80 minutes long, for 62 minutes two teams battled in a scoreless affair Monday at Max Gandy Athletic Field.  
   After countless attacks and numerous saves on both ends of the field, a deadlocked game at halftime seems to be building for a climatic ending.

Putts drop as City beat North Side

   COLUMBIA CITY — Putting is the ultimate test of any golfer’s game. It can make a bad tee shot be forgotten when a long putt is sunk or it can turn against you making a great start turn into a snowman on the scorecard.
   Monday, Columbia City girls’ golf had just enough putts to post its fifth consecutive dual match score under 200 as a team.
   In the process, the Lady Eagles matched their own win total from a year ago beating North Side on the back nine at Eagle Glen Golf Course 198-260.

City hits ground running at Huntington

   HUNTINGTON — Two races into the season, Columbia City cross country is starting to get a good taste of where it stands among the best the state has to offer.
   No. 14 state ranked Lady Eagles are staking their claim around northeast Indiana with the help of a freshman standout.
   In just her second career race at the high school level, Samantha Roush proved herself Saturday finishing second at the Huntington Invitational.

CC shakes off Tigers 35-16

   COLUMBIA CITY — Whether the number 13 is lucky or unlucky may be a point of view.
   After 12 straight season-opening losses to the Warsaw Tigers, Friday night’s 13th meeting was most fortunate for the Columbia City Eagle football team. The Eagles used a potent offense and an  opportunistic defense that caused seven turnovers to post a 35-26 win over the Tigers at the Max Gandy Athletic Field.

Up, over and through: ’Busco trounces Fremont 46-0

   CHURUBUSCO — What a difference a season makes.
   At this time last season, Churubusco found itself in the middle of a single score dogfight on the road at Fremont.
   Despite a 14-0 win last season, ’Busco came into this season wanting to prove more.

Whitko blanks Wawasee 20-0

   SOUTH WHITLEY — The Whitko Wildcats kicked off their season with a 20-0 shutout home game against the Wawasee Warriors.
   Whitko’s motivating defense lead their offense into touchdown after touchdown.
   After nearly every big defensive play, a touchdown was to follow.
   “I’m just very proud of our team, whether things went bad or things went good, we got back in the huddle and got back to work,” said Whitko head coach Wayne Swender.

   COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Lady Eagle soccer squad used an explosive speed advantage and a dominating first half to run its record to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over the visiting Garrett Lady Railroaders Thursday.
