COLUMBIA CITY–– It was a battle between brothers Thursday night at DeVol Field’s tennis courts, with Columbia City tennis coach Doug Stoffel feuding with older brother and coach for the Carroll Chargers, Kyle Stoffel.
After a long hard-fought battle first with the weather, then with the Chargers, Columbia City knocked off the No. 22 state-ranked Chargers, 3-2.
COLUMBIA CITY — With wind gusts strong enough to roll a golf ball across the greens at the Links of Eagle Glen, the Columbia City Lady Eagle golf team squared off against county rival Whitko and the Manchester Lady Squires.
On the cold, wet afternoon scores ballooned for everyone but the Eagles still managed a split falling by a narrow 206-208 score to Manchester, while taking a 208-231 win over the Lady Wildcats.
SYRACUSE – A last-minute change in its lineup and an unlucky bounce cost the Columbia City boys’ soccer team a 1-0 loss to the Wawasee Warriors Wednesday evening.
“One of our varsity starters, the outside midfielder, is sick and in the hospital, and our kids were very concerned about that,” Eagle head coach Chris Bechtold said. “Our kids were focused and were ready to go, and then we had to change the lineup at the last minute when we found out that he wouldn’t be able to play.
All three Whitley County teams take winning records into week five. No. 3 ’Busco gets its first true test at home against No. 8 Angola. Columbia City hits the NHC road to DeKalb. Whitko hosts Wabash for homecoming.

COLUMBIA CITY–– The Lady Eagles Golf team ‘lit it up’ Tuesday night against the Huntington North Vikings with a score of 179-205.
“This is what you call ‘lighting it up,’” Columbia City head coach Jim Thompson said.
The Lady Eagles, now 5-9, posted their lowest score of the season.
“We could’ve beaten almost anybody tonight, this is a real solid score for high school girls’ golf,” Thompson said.
KENDALLVILLE — The rough and long road in the Northeast Hoosier Conference can be tough anytime a team is away from home.
On Tuesday, Columbia City boys’ tennis got a strong test in a trip to East Noble. The Knights had the Eagles down in two positions after one set.
Forcing a third set in both, City rallied for its third win in the NHC 4-1.
The Columbia City cross country teams were on the road Tuesday night at Garrett in a three-way meet with the Railroaders and New Haven. WARSAW — There are nights when everything goes right and there are nights when almost nothing goes right.
Unfortunately for the Columbia City Lady Eagle volleyball team, Tuesday night’s trip to Warsaw was a whole lot of the latter.
The Lady Eagles had difficulty sustaining any consistency against the Lady Tigers and fell 25-15, 25-12, and 25-12.

COLUMBIA CITY — It didn’t matter what foot it came from, just about everything was at or in the goal Monday night for Columbia City girls’ soccer.
Hosting a Northeast Hoosier Conference special against New Haven, City had five different Lady Eagles post a goal in what was an early lead and 5-0 shutout for Columbia City.
“Our first two goals were within the first 10 minutes so we set the pace right there,” said Columbia City head coach Nicole Gebfert.
AKRON — Two races, two winners Saturday and both were from Whitley County.
Whether it was in the boys’ or girls’ race at the Tippecanoe Valley Invitational, you saw a county team filling the top spot and several places behind it.
No runner or team outside of Whitley County got to experience a win Saturday. Behind an individual first-place win in the boys’ race by Trapper Mize, Whitko used four runners in the top 10 to beat out second-place Rochester 79-34.
