Young, ’Busco holds off Adams Central

   DECATUR — You have to go back five seasons for the last time Churubusco girls’ basketball had two wins in November.
   Tuesday night, the Lady Eagles did it for just the second time in the last five years winning at Adams Central, 47-41.
   The win is the first on the road this season for ’Busco. The last victory on the road for the Lady Eagles came back in February of 2009 at Hamilton.

Whitko defends invite, CC gets first win

   SYRACUSE — Following five long rounds of wrestling, both Whitely County schools had accomplished at least some of their goals for the day.
   For the Whitko Wildcats it was to repeat as Wawasee Super Duals Invitational tournament champions, and for the Columbia City Eagles it was to notch their first match win of the season.
   Both teams met their goals with the Wildcats going 5-0 on the day to claim the Invitational title and the young Eagles picking up their first win of the season, a 54-27 win over Tippecanoe Valley.

Big paw of Warsaw claws City 49-31

   WARSAW — Following up an emotional last second win over rival Whitko to open the season, Columbia City (1-1) was on the road for the first time Saturday night.
   The Eagles faced the big claws of class 4A’s state runner-up and No. 3 ranked team in Warsaw (2-0).
   Behind its size and senior leadership, Warsaw handed Columbia City its first loss of the season 49-31.
   The Tigers had three starters at six-foot-three-inches or more standing over a smaller Columbia City squad.

Three champs lead ’Busco at Homestead Inv.

   FORT WAYNE — It’s one of the toughest tournaments Churubusco may have all year and its the first one for the Eagle wrestlers.
   Saturday, ’Busco took a young team to the Homestead duals in a field that featured state qualifiers.
   Despite going 2-3 and finishing fourth on out of six teams, Churubusco came away with three individual weight class champions.

Lady Eagles put North out of reach

   COLUMBIA CITY — Friday night was just another step in the right direction for Columbia City girls’ basketball and its preparation for what matters most, the postseason.
   Picking up their third consecutive win over Fort Wayne North Side 47-30, the Lady Eagles improved to 4-1 in working for a strong run in February.

Battle of felines ends in Warsaw clawing Whitko

   SOUTH WHITLEY — The Lady Wildcats were handed a 65-46 loss by the Warsaw Lady Tigers Friday night.
   The game kicked off with a three-point play by Karissa Olinske and was followed by several more three-pointers by the junior guard.
   “She was hitting well, we were able to kick it out to her and she dropped the shots,” Whitko head coach Rob Bell said.
   Olinske racked up four three-point shots and 23 points for the Lady ’Cats and also led the team in steals with four.

Controversial winning shot lifts City over Whitko

   COLUMBIA CITY — It wasn’t the 15 lead changes, the quick 10-2 start by Columbia City or even the game-high 22 points by Whitko’s Logan Irwin that was on everyone’s mind after exiting Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium Wednesday night.
   Everyone asked the question at least once. Was it a two or three?

Tough defense gets City win on the road

   LEO — Offense is always necessary to win any sport but defense can win you plenty as well.
   Tuesday night, Columbia City girls’ basketball began its first winning streak after hitting the road to Leo.    The Lady Eagles (3-1) used a stifling defensive press to win their second consecutive game beating the Lady Lions 42-22.

No. 10 Braves open Culp era with loss

   COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City wrestling team opened a new season Tuesday night.
   The match was also the first for new head coach Blane Culp. In the first of only two home matches this season the young Eagle team faced off against a veteran Bellmont squad with the CCHS wrestling alumnae in attendance.
   The Eagles managed only a forfeit win against the always tough Braves in the varsity match falling by a 73-6 score.

Eagles program continues climb to new heights

   A final look back on the Indiana high school football season sees a combined 30-6 record for Whitley County go down as easily the best ever for three area high school squads.
   The last part of that exciting season ended Friday night in the semistate round but not without plenty of history made by Churubusco in 2010.
