COLUMBIA CITY — There are many reasons that a game can get away from a team. Sometimes it’s missed opportunities that send a team down to defeat, while other times turnovers may be the culprit.
Friday night was a combination of early missed scoring opportunities, five turnovers and a last second field goal that handed the Columbia City Eagles a 17-14 Northeast Hoosier Conference loss at the hands of the visiting East Noble Knights.
“We just beat ourselves,” Eagle head coach Randy Hudgins said. “Missed opportunities were the biggest thing.”

DENVER — Whitko lost its first Three Rivers Conference game of the season by one point Friday night at North Miami, 14-13.
Unfortunately for the Wildcats, a last-minute spark in Whitko’s offense wasn’t enough to take the win.
With the Wildcats down 14-7 and less than three minutes left in the game, Whitko’s defense had its hands full. Literally.
Defensive tackle Andrew Warren caught an interception to give the Wildcats the ball on the North Miami 32-yard line.
Quarterback Alex Stoddard and Austin Mort went to work on an under two-minute touchdown drive in an attempt to tie the score.
CHURUBUSCO — ’Busco Head Coach Lee Etzler described the playing predicament as difficult in the team’s 18-14 win over the Culver Academy.
“We had tough field conditions, tonight. The field gets a little sloppier and we’re spinning in the mud a little bit,” Etzler said.
The field was already water-soiled and muddy from a week of rain, and the weather conditions Friday night did nothing to help the matter.
