CHURUBUSCO — Kyle Mathewson went from competing for state championships to national championships Thursday.
The small class A football school of Churubusco had its all-time leading rusher continue his career as one of 24 recruits to sign with Grand Valley State University on national signing day.
WARSAW — The preliminary round of the Indiana High School girls’ swimming and diving sectional took place Thursday night at the Warsaw Community Pool.
The Columbia City Lady Eagles qualified participants in every event for Saturday’s finals, led by two individual first-place qualifications by freshman Andrea Richter.

The 2011 Indiana High School boys’ basketball postseason gets underway this week with the sectional round. Saturday, The Post & Mail inserted a special section into the daily edition breaking down the brackets for the three Whitley County schools. Poor road conditions have brought the Whitley County sports schedule to a halt for a third consecutive night. Columbia City's girls' basketball game at home against Huntington North for tonight was postponed one night. The game is set to tip off Friday night at 6:15 p.m.
Wednesday's Whitko girls' basketball game at Triton has been canceled due to inclement weather. Due to schedule conflicts the game will not be made up. The Lady Wildcats will debut in the sectional tournament at Columbia City 7:30 p.m. next Wednesday.
The long and whining road to Conseco Fieldhouse takes its second turn for Whitley County wrestlers Saturday.
With the opening leg of the journey weeding each weight class down to the top four wrestlers, 15 from three schools (Churubusco, Columbia City, Whitko) will appear in the Carroll Individual Regional for a shot at reach the semistate level.
Each wrestler is looking for his own way to a top four finish that will get him and his school one step away from the state finals.
