COLUMBIA CITY — Monday night’s cold blustery weather wasn’t the only inhospitable thing at the DeVol Field tennis courts. The Columbia City Lady Eagle tennis squad was not the model host as they shut out visiting Whitley County rival Churubusco 5-0.
I think we played fairly well for a Monday night match,” Columbia City head coach Katie Myers said. “Most of the girls kept focused on their matches.”
SOUTH WHITLEY — It took five innings for Whitko’s baseball team to heat up their bats in the nearly freezing temperatures Monday against West Noble.
However, after two innings of scoring, the ’Cats won 6-1.
FORT WAYNE — Four seasons ago when the Columbia City girls’ track team picked up the Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Invitational on the schedule it was just another weekend meet.
Four years later, the Luers’ invite has become one controlled by the Lady Eagles.
In what has been rightfully dubbed a City-peat, or four-peat, Columbia City won a fourth consecutive Luers title Saturday 81.5-67.
CHURUBUSCO — For the Churubusco boys’ track team winning their own Churubusco Invitational track meet is becoming habit-forming.
Under cold and drizzly conditions Saturday the host Eagles claimed their fourth straight title, more than tripling the score of the runners-up.
The Eagles claimed titles in nine individual events and two relays on their way to scoring 180 points to outdistance both Jimtown and Eastside, who tied for second with 56 points each.
FORT WAYNE — Saturday’s weather conditions weren’t ideal but the Columbia City boys’ golf couldn’t complain at the end of the day.
A sixth-place finish at the Fort Wayne Northrop Invitational wasn’t so much about where the Eagles finished but the improvement head coach Andrew Thompson saw out of his players.
FORT WAYNE — Year in and year out, the North Side Relays pit some of the best runners in boys’ track and field against one another.
Saturday, Columbia City was a part of that mix. The Eagles made their mark packing four relays and one individual in the top six.

CHURUBUSCO — Leading 8-7 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Churubusco had some reminders of Wednesday night creep back into its mind from a grand slam walk-off loss to Whitko.
However, a four-run sixth erased all memory of that heartbreaking loss. Along with a two-run home run from Layne Fulk, Churubusco snapped a two-game losing streak at home beating Garrett 12-8.

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko track and field put it on cruise control Thursday night as they got back into competition after spring break.
Perfection in the Three Rivers Conference continued with Rochester visiting South Whitley.
The Wilcdats beat up on the Zebras by three wins from Brent Busz. The Whitko boys’ won 105-26 over Rochester.
COLUMBIA CITY — After opening up the season on the road Tuesday with a win, Columbia City girls’ tennis played host to Warsaw at DeVol Field for its home opener.
The Lady Tigers served up a spoiler beating the Lady Eagles in their home opener 4-1.

OSSIAN — The Northeast Hoosier Conference opened with a tough task Thursday for Columbia City boys’ golf.
On top of a tough team, Timber Ridge Golf Course gave the Eagles a challenge.
In nine holes, Norwell put five scores at 43 or less beating Columbia City 155-190.
