Eagles fly high, capture NECC crown

   ANGOLA — Heading into Friday’s finals of the North East Corner Conference meet at Angola High School, Churubusco trailed first-place Fairfield by 6.33 points.
   By the end of the night, school records fell and so did the Falcons.
   Churubusco finished 25.67 points ahead of Fairfield beating its conference rival 142-116.33.

Lady Eagles take big step placing 4th

   ANGOLA — It’s not a title but Churubusco girls’ track and field got some good news Friday night.
   With 2011 becoming a bounce back year for the Lady Eagles, a fourth-place finish at the North East Corner Conference meet added to a growing power from ’Busco.
   After holding preliminaries Tuesday, the Lady Eagles went back to Angola High School finishing just behind the host Lady Hornets.

Two Eagles lead soggy round at Cedar Creek GC

   LEO — Despite the downpour of rain Saturday, there was golf to be played.
   Columbia City and Churubusco boys’ golf battled the wet conditions at Cedar Creek Golf Course to come    away with a golfer leading both with a score of 84.
   The Eagles had one of their best finishes in an invitational this season taking sixth out of the 15-team field.

Vodde sisters front weekend sweep for City

   FORT WAYNE — The Columbia City softball team had its pair of sisters break a losing skid over the weekend.
   Saturday, a doubleheader at North Side had Cassie Vodde and Allie Vodde work the mound over 12 innings giving Columbia City 17-5 and 10-1 victories.
