COLUMBIA CITY — Since picking the season back up Thursday, Columbia City softball has opened its defense of the Northeast Hoosier Conference championship.
The team the Lady Eagles tied with last season for the NHC title came to Morsches Park for a Monday night game.
After seeing a 4-0 lead erased by DeKalb, Columbia City used a walk-off hit down the right field line by freshman Allie Vodde to beat the Lady Barons in the bottom of the ninth 5-4.
DENVER — Monday night’s baseball game at North Miami was an ideal one for Whitko.
Good pitching. A defense backing up the pitcher and runs when you need them.
A complete game from freshman pitcher Ethan Nicodemus helped lead the Wildcats to their first Three Rivers Conference win over the Warriors 7-4.

The annual Whitley County middle school meet was held at Whitko High School Monday night. Above, all three schools competed against one another in a relay. HUNTINGTON — Most of the time when a pitcher throws a complete game it leads to a win.
For Huntington North, Aaron Wolf’s three-hit, seven-inning performance on the mound beat Columbia City 9-2.

KENDALLVILLE — Saturday, Columbia City girls’ track celebrated the weekend like it did the previous two.
However, the Lady Eagles didn’t three-peat — like they did at the Bishop Luers Invitational two weeks ago. It wasn’t a title over a talented field — as they did at Churubusco’s Turtletown Invitational last Saturday.
It was a little bit of both. Columbia City repeated but for a sixth time at the East Noble Relays beating a strong field.
AKRON — The Columbia City Eagles baseball team’s fortunes mirrored the weather Saturday – cold to start the day but much warmer in the afternoon.
The Eagles fell 11-1 to the host Vikings in five innings in the opening game of the Tippecanoe Valley Super Saturday baseball tourney, but came back in the afternoon consolation game to down the Peru Tigers 17-6.
Columbia City catcher Megan Giffin worked behind the plate during the Lady Eagles doubleheader at home against No. 1 state ranked Bishop Dwenger. Errors plagued City in two losses to the Lady Saints 9-0, 9-1.

Columbia City girls’ tennis finished fourth at the Delta Invitational amongst a tough field that included two state ranked teams. From left are ribbon winners for the Lady Eagles: Breanna Hicks, Jenee Schneider, Madi Sjahfiedin, Celine Rongos, Samantha Alberding, Maddie Hinen and Isabel Wilson. The Lady Eagles picked up a win over Yorktown in the tournament 3-2.

Whitko second baseman Lynsi Hicks turns to first for a double play attempt during the second of two games played by the Lady Wildcats Saturday at the Tippecanoe Valley softball tournament. Whitko gave up three runs in the first inning and fell to Tippecanoe Valley 6-4 in the opener. The Lady Wildcats rallied in the consolation game beating Northwestern 6-1.
