In the heat of state: Roush gives City highest finish in 1600

   BLOOMINGTON — With temperatures nearing 100 degrees in the stands and maybe more on the track, athletes braved the hot and humid conditions Saturday at the girls’ track and field state finals at Indiana  University. 
   Among the athletes running for a top-9 state medal were three Columbia City Lady Eagles.
   Two seniors and a freshman made up the most Lady Eagles to appear in the state finals for Columbia City since 2005.

Y2K comes to end at ’Busco

   BLOOMINGTON — Blistering hot, both on track and in the air, the Indiana high school boys’ track and field state finals got under way Friday at Indiana University.
   Among the 4,411 fans in attendance, six athletes from Whitley County took to the track.
   A pair of seniors from Churubusco, known better as Y2K, capped off a record-setting Eagles career.

Lady Eagles flight cut short in semifinal

   MONTICELLO — The Lady Eagles state-bound run ended with a dramatic finish Saturday.
   Columbia City was ahead against the No. 12 state-ranked Andrean 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth-inning, when the 59ers took off with a five-run rally to win, 5-3.

Low not low enough for Wildcats: Zawlocki advances

   KENDALLVILLE — A pack of Wildcats went into Friday’s East Noble boys’ golf sectional at Noble Hawk Golf Links and one remained after the dust settled.
   As Whitko missed one of three advancing positions as a team by nine strokes, Daniel Zawlocki used his round of 77 on the par 71 course to take the fifth and final regional qualifying spot as an individual.
   Homestead took the team title at 292 ahead of Carroll (305) and DeKalb (316) — who also advanced to regional.
