SOUTH WHITLEY ‚ÄĒ Whitko stand-out point guard Logan Irwin is going Division I.
Irwin signed with Stetson University Wednesday, a NCAA Division I school in DeLand, Fla.
Though Florida may be unfamiliar territory for Irwin, the head coach isn‚Äôt.
With Irwin‚Äôs father, Rob, as Head Coach at Whitko, Logan has had the opportunity to get to know several basketball coaches, including former assistant coach at Belmont (University) Head Coach Casey Alexander
‚ÄúI knew that my relationship with Coach Alexander was the best out of all the schools I‚Äôve looked at,‚ÄĚ Irwin said.

ALBION ‚ÄĒ The Lady Wildcats girls basketball team opened its season with a decisive 63-33 win over Central Noble in Albion.
Though, as Head Coach Brandon Bradley said, the first game doesn‚Äôt necessarily portray how the season will go, Whitko‚Äôs girls had a lot to offer their fans Tuesday night.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) ‚ÄĒ Penn State football coach Joe Paterno will retire at the end of the season, his long and illustrious career brought down because he failed to do all he could about an allegation of child sex abuse against a former assistant.
"This is a tragedy," Paterno said. "It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more."
FORT WAYNE ‚ÄĒ Churubusco was defeated at the hands of two-time defending IHSAA Class 2A State Champion Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Friday.
The Knights took the opening kickoff and drove down the field to score in the first three minutes of the game.
Jaylon Smith capped the drive off with a seven-yard touchdown run to give the Knights a 7-0 lead.
It was the first of Smith‚Äôs three touchdowns in the contest.
With 7:24 left in the second quarter, a one-yard TD run by Smith made it a 14-0 ball game.
The Columbia City Saturday Basketball League came to a close last weekend.
FORT WAYNE ‚ÄĒ The last two times Churubusco and Fort Wayne Bishop Luers faced off was in consecutive years, 1995 and 1996.
Both times, it was in sectional play.
‚ÄėBusco lost both games by a combined score of 85-7.
The SAC champions are ranked first in Class 2A by the Associated Press.
Churubusco‚Äôs Eagles are ranked 11th.
The Northeast Corner Conference Champions bring in an 11-0 record ‚Äď the first perfect grid slate in school history.
It is no secret the Eagles will try to sustain drives and put up points by letting workhorse Jason Nicodemus do just that ‚ÄĒ work.
TERRE HAUTE ‚ÄĒ A tournament that began with thousands of runners four weeks ago came to a close Saturday in Terre Haute at the IHSAA State Cross Country Meet.
Eight local harriers ‚ÄĒ Whitko‚Äôs boys‚Äô team and Columbia City‚Äôs Samantha Roush ‚ÄĒ had the opportunity to compete against the top runners in the state.
Columbia City sophomore stand-out Samantha Roush placed the highest of Whitley County‚Äôs runners, taking seventh in the girls‚Äô race.
Though Roush improved on last year‚Äôs 12th place finish, her goal is to continue to improve next season.
GARRETT ‚ÄĒ The Wildcats‚Äô season hit the end of the road, or railroad for that matter, Friday night at Garrett.
After heading into the locker room with a 14-all tie at halftime, Garrett stand-out Todd Frickey scored four touchdowns in the second half to propel the Railroaders into the sectional finals, 42-14.
‚ÄúWe‚Äôve always been a second half team,‚ÄĚ Garrett Head Coach Ron Frickey, Todd‚Äôs father and former long-time Columbia City head football coach said.
CHURUBUSCO ‚ÄĒ The Churu-busco Eagles moved to 11-0 Friday for the first time in the school‚Äôs history, beating Madison-Grant 28-20.
With the win, the team is also advancing to the sectional championship at Bishop Luers.
It was one of the closest contests of the season for the Eagles.
Madison-Grant took the opening possession and matriculated down the field on the feet of Cedric Presley, who had two runs of 32 yards on the first drive.
Argyll Tyler Young scored from one-yard out, taking the lead 7-0.
Young and Presley served as workhorses the entire game.
