CHURUBUSCO â âBusco Head Coach Lee Etzler described the playing predicament as difficult in the teamâs 18-14 win over the Culver Academy.
âWe had tough field conditions, tonight. The field gets a little sloppier and weâre spinning in the mud a little bit,â Etzler said.
The field was already water-soiled and muddy from a week of rain, and the weather conditions Friday night did nothing to help the matter.

September 29th
CHURUBUSCO â Lady Eagles volleyball won for the second night amidst a three-day home stretch Wednesday, beating Canterbury in three straight games.
The final score in favor of âBusco was 25-13, 25-16 and 25-23.
Head Coach Trinda Goings mentioned the team playing on consecutive nights.
âFor us to come back and still do some things that we needed to do after a big win last night; we played solid,â said Goings.
In the first game, Churubusco took an early lead and with the score at 5-2, Danielle Pippenger took the serve and didnât relinquish it until she helped build the Eagle lead to 10-2.

COLUMBIA CITY â The Lady Eagles hosted Whitko for its senior night Wednesday night at the Max Gandy Athletic Field.
Though the Lady Wildcats lost 2-0, Coach Gary Sims was more than pleased with the teamâs performance.
âI am so proud of the girls tonight,â Sims said. âColumbia City is a big team and we competed well against them.â
The Lady Eagles have twice the roster size of Whitko, which is in its first season of IHSAA-sanctioned soccer.
September 23rd
NEW HAVEN Ââ Friday nightâs Northeast Hoosier Conference contest pitted two once-beaten teams, the Columbia City Eagles and the host New Haven Bulldogs.
The game played to a first half draw both on the scoreboard and in statistics.
Unfortunately for Columbia City, the second half saw the Bulldogs break open the contest, out-scoring the Eagles 35-7 to hand Columbia City their second loss of the season by a 62-33 score.
CHURUBUSCO â The Churubusco football statistics from Friday nightâs game against West Noble were a bit misleading.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Eagles had only 17 offensive plays and two first downs.
The team also happened to be leading the West Noble Chargers by a score of 55-6.
The Eagles won the game, 62-25, remaining unbeaten and in the process, keeping West Noble win-less.
Time of possession was simply not a factor for âBusco.
SOUTH WHITLEY â After five games on the road, the Wildcats were finally able to share a win with their home crowd Friday night against Northfield.
Despite the teamâs penalties, interceptions, fumbles and playing without senior stand-out receiver and linebacker Derek Snep, Whitko pulled out a 31-14 win over the Norsemen.
âThe mistakes we made were a lack of execution,â Whitko Head Coach Wayne Swender said.
The Wildcats had three fumbles, six penalties and two interceptions.

FORT WAYNE â The Lady Eagle soccer team traveled to Fort Wayne Thursday night to play Southside.
Though Columbia City lost, in a 3-0 shutout, the Lady Eagles used the game as a learning experience.
âSouthside is a very different team than we faced last year,â Columbia City Head Coach Nicole Gebfert said. âLast year they were quick and aggressive. This year, they were quick, aggressive and had talent.â
Gebfert said the game wasnât a total loss, as the team showed improvement from the first half to the second.

LARWILL â Whitko honored its seniors Thursday night against Rochester.
Though the Wildcats lost 6-3 to the Zebras, the âCats won a bigger battle before the season started, getting an IHSAA sanctioned soccer team at Whitko.
Before action got underway Thursday night, Whitko honored its three seniors; Scott Paulus, Jordan Sims and Jacob Ray.
Head Coach Jason Ehrman spoke about the graduating seniors and the impact they had on the program.

COLUMBIA CITY â The Columbia City Lady Eagles volleyball team came into Thursdayâs Northeast Hoosier Conference match with the visiting New Haven Lady Bulldogs looking to run the table of this weekâs matches.
After downing Blackhawk Christian Monday and NHC opponent Norwell Tuesday, the Columbia City was prepared to improve to 3-0 in the conference.
The Lady Eagles fought through an inconsistent effort to come from behind in the fifth and final game in a 3-2 marathon win over the Bulldogs, remaining unbeaten in conference play.

LARWILL â Unlike most seniors in the area, the Lady Wildcat soccer seniors played their first home game in August of this season and played their last game at home Wednesday night against a club team, Metro Rage, winning 2-0.
Whitko has eight seniors in its first year of IHSAA sanctioned soccer: Micaela Sylvester, Minona Denton, Katee Reiff, Cassie Jones, Gabby Goodman, Danielle Graves, Katie McCartey and Lynsi Hicks.
