FORT WAYNE — Columbia City and Whitko competed at the Northrop golf invitational Saturday, against strong Huntington North and East Noble teams.
Out of six teams, the Eagles placed fourth and Whitko came in sixth. Huntington North and East Noble pulled away from the pack with sub 330 scores.
Northrop had a 142, six strokes under Columbia City (348). Wawasee was close behind shooting a 350, and Whitko rounded off the match with a 377.
Huntington North also had the medalist, Jordan Sweet, who shot a 75 on the 18-hole par 71 Colonial Oaks course.
WARSAW — The Columbia City Lady Eagles softball team traveled to Warsaw Saturday and came up short in the rain, losing 12-2.
In the bottom of the third, things began to get ugly for the Lady Eagles.
VanHouten walked the first runner. The second bunted for an out but advanced the runner to second.
She struck out the next batter. She then threw an errant pitch which advanced the runner from second to third base.
A second straight offline pitch got the runner home to give Warsaw a 1-0 lead.

FORT WAYNE — Churubusco’s boys golf team had a strong showing at the Carroll Invitational at Autumn Ridge Saturday.
The Eagles placed fourth in the invite that was won by the host Chargers.
Ryan Mayer finished in the top 10, shooting an 82 and tying for 10th place.
Freshman Beau Barkley had a solid round of 84, carding a team low 39 on the front nine.
Finishing out scoring for Churubusco was Parker Conrad, 87; Brad Martin, 89; and Brandon Norris, 95.
CHURUBUSCO — It was supposed to be a “rebuild” for Churubusco boys’ track.
With the big names that led them for the past two seasons gone, the Eagles were supposed to have taken a step back.
Someone forgot to tell ’Busco Head Coach Zack Dock and his five-time Churubusco boys track Invitational Champions Saturday.
Using their depth, the Eagles surpassed their own previous records on rout to a record 191-point day and a five-peat of their own invitational.
