SOUTH WHITLEY ‚ÄĒ Whitko‚Äôs and Columbia City‚Äôs tennis teams not only faced each other Monday night in South Whitley, but battled gusty wind.
Columbia City beat the Lady ‚ÄôCats 5-0.
In No. 1 singles, Celene Rongos beat Whitko‚Äôs Abby Marshall 6-1, 6-0. Columbia City‚Äôs Kennedy Slavicek defeated Aressa Tackwell 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Whitko‚Äôs Laura Hippensteel lost to Alaina Beckner 6-4, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.
CHURUBUSCO ‚ÄĒ The Churubusco golf team won a home match Friday night against Lakewood Park and Manchester by shooting a season low 157 at Eel River Friday night. Manchester finished second with a 169 followed by Lakewood Park‚Äôs 172.
Ryan Mayer took medalist honors, carding a 38 followed by Parker Conrad‚Äôs 39, Beau Barkley and Brad Martin with 40s. Brandon Norris and Jordan Andrews also had solid rounds of 42 and 45, respectively.
The double-win makes the Eagles 5-4 on the year.
On Saturday the ‚ÄôBusco golf team participated in the Lakeland Invite held at Herron Creek in Lagrange.
FORT WAYNE ‚ÄĒ In a pool of 17 teams, Columbia City‚Äôs boys golf team placed seventh at the Concordia Invitational at Foster Park Saturday.
Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Bellmont won the match with a 315, not far ahead of fellow NHC DeKalb (317).
Heritage (321), Concordia (328) and Bishop Luers (328) split another pair of NHC teams.
East Noble edged out Columbia City by seven points (329-336).
Also making a presence from the NHC was New Haven, which placed 14th.
SYRACUSE ‚ÄĒ Whitko‚Äôs baseball team participated in Wawasee‚Äôs invitational Saturday in Syracuse.
The Wildcats lost their first game to Heritage, 11-9, but won the second game over Churubusco 13-9.
In the first game, Heritage took a 6-0 lead in the first three innings before Whitko‚Äôs bats got warmed up in the bottom of the third.
The Wildcats scored four runs in the frame, with Riley Cokl crossing home plate first, courtesy of an RBI single by Ryan Weigold.
Weigold and teammate Colin Nicodemus were batted in off a double by Austin Mort to score the second and third runs.
LIGONIER ‚ÄĒ Columbia City‚Äôs baseball team came away with the sweep over West Noble High School in a double-header on Saturday in Ligonier. The Eagles won the first game 13-2, then took the second 10-8.
Columbia City‚Äôs record is now 7-2.
In the early game, the Eagles scored 13 runs on 15 hits with one error, and the Chargers had two runs on two hits with two errors.
Pitcher Connor Slavich and third baseman Jordan Bickle hit two doubles apiece, while right fielder Landon Rehrer hit a double of his own.
CHURUBUSCO ‚ÄĒ It was the girls‚Äô turn on the Churubusco High School track Saturday.
Much like their male counterparts did the weekend prior, the ‚ÄėBusco Lady Eagles shined in front of their home crowd.
Using a strong performance in the field events, Churubusco dominated the black division of the Turtletown Invitational Saturday, winning by 49.5 points over second-place rival Whitko.
