DELAYED: Whitko baseball sectionals threatened by rain

Whitko’s sectional opener against Norwell was delayed twice in the first two innings Friday night at Bellmont due to lightening.

The game was scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., but the first pitch wasn’t thrown until after 8 p.m., due to the first game taking longer than expected. As of 9:15 p.m., only two innings were completed.

Results from the game were not available at press time.

McClure, Rethlake, Wilkinson headed to state

FORT WAYNE — Athletes from 37 different Northeast Indiana High Schools converged at Wayne High School Thursday night for track regionals.

Whitley County had contenders in 11 different events, led by Whitko’s Alec Wilkinson, who was a regional champion in the pole vault.

Wilkinson vaulted three inches high than his closest opponent at 14 feet, 3 inches.

Columbia City’s Matt Rethlake took second in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches.

Austin McClure of Churubusco had a second-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 52 feet, 4 inches.

Col. City baseball holds on for win

AUBURN — Columbia City’s baseball team held on to a 6-4 lead to beat Snider in the opening round of sectionals at DeKalb Thursday.

After a 6-3 lead, the Panthers threatened the Eagles with a run in the seventh inning, a base runner on second and the tying run at the plate.

Columbia City held on to get the next three batters out and win, 6-4.

Jordan Bickle opened the second frame with a home run. Snider led off the bottom of the second with a home run to tie the score at one.
