Flying to the Olympic trials: Former CCHS stand-out Haley Richter off to Olympic trials

June 21, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — Haley Richter can “fly” in the pool. Literally.
Richter will be competing in the Olympic trials Monday in Omaha, Nebraska in the 100-meter butterfly.

She qualified by meeting the qualifying time (101.99) by just a fraction of a second, 1:01.5.

Though Richter said she doesn’t expect to place in the top two to make it to the Olympics, she’s excited about the experience.

“It’s going to be so fun. I’m so excited,” Richter said.

Richter said she’s seeded around 80th place. Her time, 101.5, would’ve been good for the world record in 1974. The record in ‘74 was 101.88.
