COLUMBIA CITY — A casual observer would look at the 2012 Columbia City football season and see a sub-500 team that somehow managed to qualify for the second round of the sectional playoffs.

Eagles fans know better than to judge last season that quickly.

’Busco wins Woodlan Invite

WOODLAN — Churubusco’s wrestling team took home the invitational title from Woodlan Saturday.

The Eagles claimed the victory by scoring 233 points with weight-class wins from Jason Nicodemus, Sam Siddons and Gunner Barnhart.

’Busco was 24 points ahead of the second-place team and Northeast Corner Conference foe Fremont.

Churubusco head coach Sam Riesen said ’Busco has finished at the top of the pack for the last several years, and he’s glad the team was able to pick up a win this season.

Col. City wrestling falls to DeKalb

WATERLOO — The Columbia City Eagle wrestling team traveled north to meet Northeast Hoosier Conference foe DeKalb in the last of the regular season NHC dual meet matchups.

With the Eagle lineup shuffled to fill in for the four suspended wrestlers, the Eagles ended up on the short end of a 49-21 score.

With bouts starting at182 pounds, the Eagles took an early lead 3-0 when Russell Hazelet took a 3-2 lead in the first period and then held on for a 5-4 win over the Barons’ Alexander Shoemaker. The Barons came right back with a pinfall win at 195 pounds to go up 6-3.
