HUNTERTOWN — With University of Notre Dame scouts in the stands, the Carroll Chargers used the visiting Columbia City Eagle football squad as a backdrop for an offensive showcase, handing the Eagles a 56-0 Northeast Hoosier Conference beating.
“They (Carroll) played with great intensity,” said Columbia City Head Coach Randy Hudgins, “And we did not match that intensity.”
The Chargers took the opening kickoff and marched 75 yards in eight plays.
Junior running back Justin Tranquill took the ball in for the score from 11 yards out with 9:36 left in the first quarter.
SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko may have lost an outright win of the Three Rivers Conference after falling to Rochester Friday night.
The Wildcats were the lone team without a TRC loss, but dropped a 26-9 game to the Zebras, who posted a four-touchdown second half.
The only scenario that Whitko could earn the title outright is if the ’Cats beat Tippecanoe Valley (5-3) next week, and if Rochester falls to 1-7 North Miami. Rochester is 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the TRC.
Whitko came out with a strong start against the Zebras Friday, holding a 9-0 lead going into the second half.
CHURUBUSCO — With a share of a conference championship still in play, Churubusco’s football team has one week left in the regular season to bounce back from its first loss.
The Class 2A third-ranked Eagles fell to visiting Fairfield Friday, 35-14. While the win snapped an undefeated season for ’Busco, it did not shake the hopes of a shared Northeast Corner Conference championship.
