CHURUBUSCO — Though Churubusco opened its boys basketball season with a loss, the Eagles showed a vast improvement from last season’s opener against Adams Central.
Last year, Churubusco fell 51-34, the first of its nine-game losing streak to start this season. This year, Adams Central squeaked out the win with an overtime, 3-point, buzzer-beater, winning 58-56.
Eagle Brent Simmons stepped up the the free-throw line with 10 seconds left and ’Busco down two points.
SOUTH WHITLEY — For nearly an entire half, Columbia City’s boys basketball team had an advantage it did not exploit in its 49-31 win against Whitko Wednesday.
That advantage was at the tape measure. With three players at 6’5 or more, and Whitko’s tallest being 6’3, the conventional wisdom would say that the Eagles would go inside, but that did not happen, at least at first.
“We shot nine 3’s in the first half,” said Columbia City Boys Basketball Head Coach Chris Benedict. “I mean, you’ve got to get the ball inside.
It’s a little easier to go inside, then out on those 3’s.”
