County rivalries heat up this weekend

November 15, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY— Basketball season is just beginning for high school girls around the state of Indiana this week.

Despite it being so early in the season, the battle for Whitley County supremacy will be waged this weekend.

Whitko will host Columbia City Friday night at 8 p.m. The Lady Wildcats will then turn around and travel to the other Whitley County high school — Churubusco, for a game Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

The contests will somewhat determine the best team in the county, but not completely, as Columbia City does not play ’Busco this year.

Sheckler receives Hall of Fame honors

November 14, 2013

HUNTINGTON — Former Columbia City High School basketball player Doug Sheckler was honored by Huntington University recently.

Sheckler was inducted into the 2013 class of H.U.’s Hall of Fame, along with three others.

Sheckler was a senior on the 2004 Columbia City team that advanced to the state finals — the furthest any Eagle team has made it in the tournament.

Sheckler began playing for the Foresters in 2004, and according to a press release by H.U., his impact on the program was immediate.
