CHURUBUSCO â€” Saturday nightâ€™s basketball game was most definitely a game of very contrasting halves.
The visiting Whitko Wildcats used stellar shooting from the field to win the first half, but the host Churubusco Eagles used a furious fourth quarter and an off-balance shot in the final seconds to win the second half, and the game, by a 42-40 score.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s boys basketball team proved it is ready for sectional play â€” topping Northrop Saturday, 55-49.
The Eagles had as much as a 15-point lead over the Bruins, who knocked Columbia City out of the state tournament last season and handed the Eagles two of its eight losses in 2011-12.
Northrop has lost its last three games in a row, with Concordia and Pike setting the stage for Columbia City to beat the Bruins for the Eaglesâ€™ senior night.
WARSAW â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s boys swim team saw its season come to a conclusion at Saturdayâ€™s sectional.
The Eagles garnered 187 team points to finish fourth. Warsaw won the meet with 498.5 points.
Eagle coach Kristen Swonger was pleased with the performance overall of her team.
â€śI think the boys did a fantastic job,â€ť she said. â€śWe came in fourth overall with just a few swimmers and they swam great.â€ť
