City swim succeeds despite low numbers

March 21, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Though Columbia City’s boys and girls swim teams didn’t have a state-title, stand-out season — there was much to highlight about the small squad’s performance this year.

Eagle head coach Kristen Swonger, who is stepping down after this season, said every swimmer broke their personal record at least once, and some swam new events for the first time.

With only 11 girls and 12 boys on the team, winning many meets posed big challenge for the Eagles.

“We had no idea what was going to happen,” Swonger said.

INDIANAPOLIS — In light of all Churubusco’s football team’s success throughout the last three years — including a 33-5 combined record — only three players have received such an honor.

Offensive lineman Eric Kuznar joins former ’Busco standouts Kyle Monk and Kyle Matthewson as recipients of a ‘Griddy’ award Sunday.

The senior was honored at the Colts Pavilion in Indianapolis ad the awards ceremony.
