SOUTH WHITLEY — It was the same results at a different place in this season’s Whitley County track meet.
As it ended in 2012, Columbia City’s girls and Churubusco’s boys track teams led the county.
Whitko hosted the rivalry event and placed second in both the girls and boys meets.
The competition was the first outdoor meet for all three schools, who have hardly had the opportunity to practice outside due to cold, snowy conditions.
Polar opposite from last season, which saw temperatures as high as the 80s in March.
LIGONIER — Whitko’s JV baseball team scored a victory over West Noble Thursday.
The Wildcats beat the Chargers 6-2. Sophomore Tanner Hughes was the winning pitcher for Whitko, allowing just one run and striking out nine in four innings. Riley Anderson went the rest of the way for the Wildcats, allowing just one run as well.
CHURUBUSCO – A four-run first inning was all the Churubusco team needed to earn a win in its season opener.
The Eagles would go on to add four more runs throughout the game on their way to an 8-0 victory over Woodlan.
Brent Simmons was dominant on the mound for the Eagles. In six innings of shutout work, the junior allowed only one hit. Simmons also struck out 11 batters. Hayden Kilgore closed the game out for ‘Busco on the mound with a perfect seventh inning.
