April 22, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team fell to visiting Norwell Saturday.
The Knight pitching held Whitko to just one hit in an 11-0 loss. Wyatt Wolf had the lone Wildcat hit.

Norwell took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, 5-0 advantage by the second frame, and was ahead 8-0 by the end of the fourth before winning 11-0 by the 10-run rule.

Whitko is now 7-4 on the year and plays New Haven tonight.

Norwell’s Luke Hunter was the winning pitcher, while Whitko’s Avery Robbins was handed the loss.

CHURUBUSCO — The “black division” team championship of Saturday’s Turtletown Classic girl’s track meet came down to the final two races.

When the smoke cleared, the Whitko Lady Wildcats topped host Churubusco by a narrow, 90-83, margin to claim the team title, while in the Gold Division for larger schools — the Columbia City Lady Eagle squad placed third behind Warsaw and Bellmont.

The Wildcats and Churubusco paced an 11-team black division that included teams from Woodlan, Fremont, Westview, Central Noble, Manchester, Canterbury, Culver, Garrett and Prairie Heights.

’Busco 10-runs Whitko

April 22, 2013

CHURUBUSCO — Unlike Saturday’s close battle at Churubusco’s track invitational — when Whitko topped the Lady Eagles by a close margin — ’Busco’s softball team beat the Lady ’Cats by a definitive 13-3 score.

Churubusco scored seven runs in the fourth inning to cut the game short, ending it by the 10-run rule in five frames.

The Lady Eagles tallied 13 hits to Whitko’s three, but the opening innings weren’t so lopsided.

Churubusco scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning, but Whitko retaliated with a run of its own in the top of the second to tie the score.

‘Busco throwers do well with state’s best

INDIANAPOLIS — Three Churubusco athletes were invited to Warren Central High School to compete with the best the state had to offer, and came away successful.

The Throwers Showcase was held at Warren Central High School, an event featuring the top 20 track athletes, male and female, in the shot put and discus.

Churubusco’s Austin McClure grabbed a Top-5 placing in both events.
He was fourth in the discus and third in the shot put.

His teammate, Gunner Barnhart, was seventh in the shot put.

For the girls, ‘Busco’s Katie Monk was fourth in discus.
