’Busco falls, 4-0

LIGONIER — Churubusco’s softball team fell to West Noble Friday night in Ligonier.

The Chargers beat the Lady Eagles by a final score of 4-0.

West Noble built a 2-0 lead after the third inning and added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to take the win over the Lady Eagles.

Churubusco is now 5-10 on the year and the Chargers’ campaign mark is 4-10.
‘Busco is slated to play again Monday at home against Leo.

Col. City falls to Snider, 6-5

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s softball team left the diamond at Morsches Park with a sour taste in its mouth, after suffering a difficult loss to Snider Friday, 6-5.

The Lady Eagles battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the first inning to get within one run of tying the game. Larissa Rehrer stepped up to the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning and knocked a double to right field, sending home a runner on second base to tie the score — or not.

Eagles tripped up by Bishop Luers

FORT WAYNE — Whatever fire was in the Columbia City baseball team had gone out Friday night as the Eagles lost to the Bishop Luers Knights 4-2 at Indiana Tech.

Despite out-hitting Bishop Luers 4-3, Columbia City couldn’t put runs on the board. The Eagles’ defense didn’t help their cause, as they committed six errors in the field.

Whitko netters split TRC pair

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s girls tennis team had two Three Rivers Conference matches this week and split the pair.

Monday, the Lady Wildcats defeated visiting Southwood, 3-2. At No. 1 singles, Laura Hippensteel pulled out a tight three-set win over Southwood’s Sarah Peters in a match that was more than two hours.

At No. 2 singles, Aressa Tackwell of Whitko beat Southwood’s Emma Flynn 6-0, 6-1.

Charger netters down Churubusco

LIGONIER — Churubusco’s girls tennis squad dropped a road contest to a Northeast Corner Conference opponent Thursday.

It was the Chargers from West Noble that victimized the Lady Eagles. The hosts defeated visiting ‘Busco 4-1 in varsity action.

At No. 1 singles, Churubusco’s Audrey Gierscher picked up the lone win for vistors at 6-3, 6-1 over Hannah Pfenning.

At No. 2 singles, Cheyenne Conner of ‘Busco fell to Rachel Strouse, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Kayleen Mitchell of the Lady Eagles lost to Joise Gibbons, 6-2, 6-2.

’Busco softball earns NECC victory

HAMILTON — Churubusco’s softball team defeated Northeast Corner Conference-rival Hamilton Thursday night.

The Lady Eagles were 9-1 victors in the road win.

In the circle, Courtney Luttman keyed the ‘Busco charge.

She pitched seven innings, allowing just one run and striking out eight and scattering eight hits.

Offensively, Elaine Horn helped lead Churubusco by going 3-for-3.

Luttman was one of two Lady Eagles to get two hits. She was 2-of-4, as was Chandler Blake. Both had one RBI as well.

Blake and Kellary Crabil both had a double with Crabil driving in two runs.

Whitko junior varsity undefeated after 11

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s junior varsity softball team is 11-0 for the season, and four of those wins came this week.

The Lady Wildcats won four straight days, Monday through Thursday, defeating Huntington North, North Miami, Central Noble and Carroll, respectively.

Monday, Whitko downed Huntington North, 15-5. Adrianna Holst struck out five while picking up the win in the circle for the Lady ‘Cats. Whitko had six extra-base hits in the game.

Eagle baseball still leads conference

COLUMBIA CITY — It was altogether fitting that on Thursday’s senior night that the Columbia City Eagle Baseball team got standout performances from its senior leaders in the Northeast Hoosier Conference game with the visiting New Haven Bulldogs.

The Eagles used a dominating pitching performance from senior Jordan Bickle and multiple extra-base hits from seniors Derek Hinen, Andrew Biggs and Austin McCormick to hang a 14-1 loss on the Bulldogs.

Bickle turned in an outstanding game on the mound for the Eagles.

Wildcats control Anderson

ANDERSON — Whitko’s baseball team traveled to Anderson Prep School Thursday night and took a decisive 14-2 win.

Tanner Gaff led the Wildcats from the mound and the plate.

Gaff pitched four innings, giving up one earned run and striking out nine. From the plate, Gaff batted 3-for-4, scoring three runs and two RBIs.

Ryan Weigold finished up on the mound for Whitko, pitching the fifth and final inning, giving up one of Anderson’s seven hits.

Weigold also batted well, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.

Lady Eagles sweep New Haven

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s tennis team swept a Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Thursday, defeating New Haven 5-0.

The Lady Eagles took the win on a special fundraising night. Columbia City’s girls tennis team, led by Head Coach Kathleen Myers, raised money for Isaac Rentschler, a second grader who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Isaac, a student of Myers’, is currently undergoing treatment for a form of eye cancer.

The Lady Eagles honored Isaac in prime fashion, with Celine Rongos and Adriana Brown taking sweeping 6-0, 6-0 wins in No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
