COLUMBIA CITY — Selections have been made for The Post & Mail’s 2012-13 Athlete of the Year.
Last year’s top selections were Alex Stoddard, a baseball, football and basketball athlete from Whitko, and Karissa Olinske, who played softball, basketball and volleyball for the Lady Wildcats.
This year, both selections are Columbia City athletes who both have competed in three sports at some point in their high school careers, and have committed to play sports in college.
COLUMBIA CITY — When making her college selection, Columbia City volleyball player Gabrielle Hazen looked at the big picture.
While she had the option to attend many schools in the Big Ten Conference, including Ohio State where teammate Kalisha Goree will be attending, Hazen decided to go with a school with strong academics.
“Northwestern is amazing academically,” Hazen said. “When narrowing down schools, I wanted to come out with a great education as well as a great athletic career.
“At Northwestern I’ll be getting both.”
COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City stand-out volleyball player Kalisha Goree has made her college decision — Ohio State University.
Goree verbally committed to the Big Ten school recently, and said her experience at Columbia City has made a large impact on her successful career.
With some of her family living in Fort Wayne, Goree had the opportunity to attend a Fort Wayne school, but she chose Columbia City.
