Plymouth pounds Whitko

PLYMOUTH — Whitko’s boys soccer team fell on the road to Plymouth Tuesday.

The Wildcats lost to the Pilgrims by a 9-0 margin.

Whitko picked up nine saves at the goalkeeper position.

Col. City boys tennis wins one, loses one

GOSHEN — Columbia City’s two-man tennis team traveled to Goshen Tuesday night to take on Bethany Christian.

The Eagles won one match and lost one match against the Bruins.
Niko Rongos won in a long match against Abraham Thorne.

After Rongos won the first set 7-6, he lost the second 6-4.

Rongos came back in the third set to win 2-1 after Thorne was retired.
Rongos remains undefeated after three matches.

Change of venue for golf tonight

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s girls golf match tonight against New Haven has been moved to Eagle Glen Golf Course, due to a scheduling issue in New Haven.

The match, which was originally supposed to be played at Whispering Creek, is at 4:30 p.m.

’Busco tennis tops Lakeland, 4-1

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s boys tennis team picked up a Northeast Corner Conference win Tuesday night against Lakeland.

The Eagles took a 4-1 victory over their conference foes, with wins in every match but No. 2 doubles, which was a forfeit.

The Lillmars twins, Luke and Landon, picked up wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Luke Lillmars won 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 match, and Landon won 6-1, 7-5 in No. 2 singles.

Lady Wildcat soccer nabs first win

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s girls soccer team gained its first victory of 2013 at home against Rochester.

The Lady Wildcats took control of ball possession to beat the Lady Zebras, 5-1.

Jenny Brown and Rachelle Whitaker had the two Whitko goals in the first half. Brown was assisted by Mikayla Findley.

Rochester had its lone score in the first half as time was expiring.
The Lady Wildcats poured it on in the second half.

Sydney Sims notched a score, and was followed by Ellyana Blue, who was assisted by Reghan Craig.

Whitko girls golf falls to TRC foe Wabash, 202-217

MANCHESTER — Whitko’s girls golf team lost a Three Rivers Conference match-up to Wabash Monday.

The visiting Lady Apaches beat the Lady Wildcats, 202-217 at Sycamore Golf Club.

Whitko had a more balanced attack, with Kirsten Crawford having a 51 to pace her team, which had five golfers in the 50s.

That did not match up with the top two from Wabash, though. Jordan Rauh led the Lady Apaches with a 41, and Jaclyn Lewis had 47.

’Busco downs Lady ’Cats in sweep

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s volleyball team hosted and swept county-rival Whitko Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles took a 25-15 win in game one, 25-18 advantage in game two, and pulled off a close, 25-22 win in the third and final game.

Alyssa Anderson tallied nine aces for the Lady Eagles. Teammate Lacey Pulley had 11 assists, and Danielle Pippenger recorded two blocks.

’Busco’s Molly Green had six digs.

DeKalb girls golf edges Lady Eagles

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s girls golf team lost a Northeast Hoosier Conference match up to DeKalb Tuesday at Eagle Glen Golf Course.

The Lady Barons shot 186 to beat the Lady Eagles by 18 as Columbia City had 204.

Katie Skidmore of DeKalb was the meet medalist with a score of 42.

Seven strokes behind her was Macenzie Lane, who led Columbia City with a 49. Sydney Ford carded a 50, and Taylor Daniel had 52.

Allison Yoder and Cheyenne Johnson rounded out the varsity numbers for the Lady Eagles, shooting 53 and 55, respectively.

City volleyball remains undefeated

GARRETT — Improving to 3-0 on the young season, Columbia City Head Volleyball Coach Trish Hinen is still seeking the right combination.

After defeating Garrett on the road Tuesday evening, Hinen said, “Overall we did a good job. But I’m still trying to find the best team chemistry on the court.”

The Lady Eagles disposed the Railroaders in three games — 25-21, 25-17 and 25-20.

On a very hot night, with no air conditioning in the Garrett gymnasium, Columbia City showed no ill-effects to the stifling heat.

Col. City golf downs North Side

August 27, 2013

FORT WAYNE — After an 0-4 start, Columbia City’s girls golf team is continuing to improve, winning its last two matches to bring its record to 2-4.

The Lady Eagles downed Fort Wayne North Side Monday night, 188-258.

Columbia City was led by medalist Macenzie Lane, who scored a 43.
