Whitko boys come in sixth at Knox

KNOX — Whitko’s boys tennis team came in sixth at the Knox Invitational Saturday.

The Wildcats scored 16 points overall.

On an individual level, Tyler Baugher, of Whitko, came in third in No. 1 singles.

Blake Castle was fourth in No. 2 singles and Cole Bechtold was fifth in No. 3 singles.

In doubles action, Reed Brace and Bailey Platt came in eighth at No. 1 doubles, and Alex Bechtold and Alex Robbins came in sixth at No. 2 doubles.

Whitko next competes tonight when it hosts West Noble at 4:30 p.m.

Col. City, Whitko linksters drop out of state golf tourney

WINONA LAKE — Columbia City and Whitko’s girls golf teams saw their seasons end at an IHSAA golf sectional Saturday at Stonehenge Golf Club.

The Lady Eagles scored 425 for seventh place at the Lady Wildcats were at 10th place with 478.

The top three teams advanced to regionals. Those three squads were first-place Rochester, which shot a 349, second-place Northwood, which had a 351 and host-Warsaw with 369.

Eagle soccer falls on senior night

COLUMBIA CITY — Prior to the opening play of the Columbia City boy’s varsity soccer game Saturday, the six team members representing the senior class and their parents were introduced.

In a game pitting the Eagles against the Heritage Patriots, it appeared the seniors and team mates would celebrate a hard-earned victory.

Unfortunately, the second half play didn’t match the first 40-minute effort and it turned costly for the Eagles.
