Lady Eagles pummel Fremont, 14-1

CHURUBUSCO — In Tuesday evening’s Northeast Corner Conference battle of Lady Eagle softball teams, the host Churubusco Lady Eagles used a big nine-run fourth inning to hand the visiting Fremont Lady Eagles a 14-1 loss.

The hosts gave up only a single and a walk in the first three innings to the visitors, as Churubusco pitcher Courtney Luttman enticed five fly-outs in the first three stanzas to go along with infield ground outs.

Col. City tennis tops DeKalb

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s tennis team picked up a Northeast Hoosier Conference win Tuesday night, topping DeKalb 4-1.

The Lady Eagles picked up wins in No. 1 and No. 3 singles, as well as both doubles teams.

Celine Rongos took a strong 6-1, 6-2 win over DeKalb’s Kelsey Helmkamp in No. 1 singles.

In No. 3 singles, Adriana Brown won 6-3, 6-3 over Lady Baron Taylor Thies.
The No. 1 doubles pair of Sydney Ford and Macie Hinen topped DeKalb 6-3, 6-2. Breanna Hicks and Alaina Beckner won 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles.

Eagle golf drops NHC match by 15

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s boys golf team dropped another Northeast Hoosier Conference match Tuesday, falling to Carroll, 155-170.

The Eagles are now 0-3 in the NHC and 2-4 overall.

Columbia City freshman Tyler Green and Carroll’s Joey Justice we co-medalists, each scoring a 37 in the back nine at Eagle Glen.

Fellow freshman Spencer Klimek was Columbia City’s No. 2 linkster Tuesday, scoring a 40.

Max Dryer finished with a 45.

Both Cameron Slavich and Trent Murphy ended the night with scores of 48.

Angola beats ’Busco tennis, 5-0

CHURUBUSCO — What has become a long season for the Churubusco Lady Eagle tennis team continued on Tuesday night as it fell 5-0 to a visiting Angola Lady Hornet team.

The Lady Eagles were only able to pick up one game in the varsity singles contests and that came at the No. 3 slot where senior Kayleen Mitchell fell 6-0, 6-1 to Angola’s Alyssa Rhoades.

In the No. 1 singles slot, Churubusco sophomore Cheyenne Conner fell 6-0 to the Lady Hornets’ Kirsten Quandt in the first set and by an identical 6-0 score in the second set.

Whitko golfers come in second

WABASH — Whitko’s boys golf team came in second in a triangular meet with two TRC-foes at Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash.

Whitko shot 178 for the day, five behind host-Northfield. Manchester scored 196 as a team.

Danny Zawlocki and Cole Bechtold were the top golfers for the Wildcats, each shooting 43. That placed them in a tie for third place, three strokes behind Trae Cole and Braydon Schindler of Northfield, who tied for first at 40.

Other scores for the Wildcats included Colton LeTourneau with 45, Matt Hathaway at 47 and Will Peters shooting 48.

Columbia City boys take 2nd

HUNTERTOWN — Columbia City’s boys track team took home second place at a three-way meet at Carroll Tuesday.

The host Chargers scored 111 to place first. The Eagles had 28 and Bellmont had 27.

Columbia City swept the throwing events. Dakota Goldwood was first in the shot put with a toss of 42 feet, 0.5 inches. Wyatt Larkey took first in the discus with a throw of 139-2.

There were three second-place finishes for the Eagles. Mitchell Maloney was runner-up in the pole vault. Relay-wise, the 3,200-meter team of Seth Kissinger, David Fulk, Evan Van Houten and Evan Harney was second.

Columbia City pounds Bellmont, 18-4

COLUMBIA CITY — Their bats hit hard and often on a sunny Monday evening in the City, as the Columbia City Eagles took a key Northeast Hoosier Conference victory over the visiting Bellmont Braves 18-4 to stay perfect in the NHC in baseball Monday.

The Eagles got the win via the 10-run rule after leading by 14 runs at the conclusion of the top half of the fifth inning.

Columbia City pummeled Bellmont’s pitchers for 18 runs on 13 hits, five of them for extra bases, and five walks.

Not a single Eagle batter struck out in the contest.

DeKalb downs Lady Eagles, 4-0

COLUMBIA CITY — Monday night’s Columbia City Northeast Hoosier Conference softball game against the visiting DeKalb Lady Barons took barely an hour and a half to complete.

With both pitchers limiting the offensive opportunities for both teams, the contest would come down to any miscues in the field.

Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, three errors accounted directly for Lady Baron runs as DeKalb handed the Lady Eagles a 4-0 loss.

Two errors put the Lady Eagles in a hole in the first inning.

Whitko J.V. falls in tourney title

MENTONE — Whitko’s softball team lost the championship game of the Tippecanoe Valley Invitational Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats fell to Northwestern by a score of 10-0 in six innings.

Emily Weigold and Kennedy Hart got the lone pair of hits for Whitko.

From the circle, Aly Nicodemus took the loss but allowed just one earned run to Northwestern.

In the first game of the tournament, Whitko defeated its TRC rival, host Tippecanoe Valley.

The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Vikings, 13-3.

LEAGUE: Crooked Lake Ladies League informational meeting Wednesday

Warm weather is coming into full swing, and with that comes local golf leagues. Submit information about your golf league to sports@thepostandmail.com.

Crooked Lake Ladies Golf League will be having an organizational meeting Wednesday (May 1) at 9 a.m. at the club house. All levels of play are welcome. Time of play in May is slated for 9 a.m., every Wednesday. In June, league will begin at 8:30 a.m. Call Frances Brown at 244-5037 with questions.
