FOOTBALL PREVIEWS: Whitko preparing for Bellmont

October 25, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY— Last week, Whitko captured a share of the Three Rivers Conference championship for the first time since the Wildcats won it outright in 2010.

The team from Whitley County’s southwest side is likely hoping for a stronger postseason run in 2013. In 2010, the Wildcats fell by just three points to Bremen in the sectional opener.

This year, the Wildcats draw Bellmont in the first round.

The Braves posted a 4-5 record this season, but did so as the smallest school in their conference, the Northeast Hoosier Conference.

October 24, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY— A week is only seven days long, but sometimes it can feel like a longer passage of time.

Norwell beat the Eagles 35-21 in Columbia City. Now, the stakes are higher in the rematch: Win or go home.

CHURUBUSCO — As the postseason begins this week for high school football, Churubusco’s football team will try to put two straight losses behind it as sectional play starts Friday.

The Eagles lost by one point to Lakeland last week and to Fairfield two weeks ago. It was the first two-game losing streak for Churubusco in six years, as the Eagles lost to the same two schools in 2007.

’Busco’s football team might hope for a similar postseason. In 2007, the Eagles made it to the semi-state round.

RANKED WARFARE: Whitley County volleyball foes highly regarded

Both schools, competing in Class 3A and 2A, respectively, have highly-ranked foes standing in their way on the path to a sectional title.

For Columbia City, the foe is a conference rival. Bellmont beat the Lady Eagles in three sets earlier this season.
