Whitley Co. track teams move relayers forward

All three Whitley County boys’ track teams will be sending both individuals and relay teams to next Thursday’s IHSAA Marion Regional competition by virtue of their top four finishes at Thursday night’s Sectional meets.

Columbia City and Whitko teams competed at the Wayne High School Sectional, while the Churubusco Eagles traveled to Fort Wayne North Side for their meet.

Homestead took the team crown at Wayne with Whitko placing fifth and the Columbia City boys taking sixth, while Churubusco claimed sixth place at North Side.

Whitko golf falls

Whitko’s boys golf team suffered a 170-182 loss to Canterbury this week at Sycamore Golf Club.

Leading the Wildcats was Danny Zawlocki, who scored a 42.

Canterbury’s top player was Trevor Uhl, who shot a 39.

Whitko’s Will Peters was one stroke away from his teammate with a 43, and Cole Bechtold shot a 44.

Matt Hathaway shot a 53 for Whitko.

Tim Gensch finished in 60 strokes.

Col. City routs Whitko in sectional

Columbia City girl’s tennis team defeated Whitko in the second round of sectionals last night with a team score of 4-1.

No. 1 singles player, Rachel Flauding was the only loss, but played a very close match.

The score was tied in the first two sets 6-2, 2-6.

Then in the tie breaker game, she fell to her opponent 2-6.

No. 2 singles player Aubrey Wright won her match with a score of 6-1, 6-0.

Katie Doerhmann defeated her Wildcat opponent 6-0, 6-0.

No. 1 doubles team Macie Hinen and Sydney Ford won with a score of 6-1, 6-0.

Bellmont take a win over CCHS girls

Columbia City girl’s softball fell to the Bellmont last night with a score of 5-7.

In the top of the first inning, an error on the Eagle’s part allowed the Braves to score.

Bellmont was also able to hold the Eagles from scoring during the first inning. In the top of the second inning, their first out was at first base.

Quick thinking was used by catcher, Bella Krieg as she threw to third base after a bunt was hit to get the Eagles their second out.
