Churubuscoâ€™s field star Katie Monk set a girls regional record at Fort Wayne Northrop Tuesday, tossing the discus 151 feet, 2 inches, beating the previous record (145-1) by six feet.
With a trip to the IHSAA State Finals Track Meet at stake, female athletes from all three Whitley County High Schools competed in the Northrop Regional.
Churubusco led the Whitley County contingent, qualifying individuals in three different events, with Columbia City qualifying a relay team for State Finals.
Columbia Cityâ€™s Lady Eagle Softball team opened IHSAA Sectional play with a Monday afternoon game against a Bellmont squad that had beaten them late in the season by a 7-5 score.
In a game that saw more offense than defense from each team, the Eagles pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 7-7 deadlock and advance to the Sectional semifinals on Thursday with an 8-7 win over the Squaws.
