COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s girls golf team continued its hot streak, taking down Northeast Hoosier Conference powerhouse Homestead. The Lady Eagles, behind medalist Macenzie Lane, eked out a 191-192 win on a soggy Eagle Glen Golf Course Thursday night.
The season opens for area football teams tonight. Columbia City and Whitko have home games against Kosciusko County squads, while Churubusco travels to Lakeland. Columbia City hosts Warsaw, while Whitko and Wawasee square off in South Whitley. Games begin at 7 p.m.
ANGOLA â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s volleyball team held on for a five-game win Wednesday night at Angola. After falling in the first two games, 25-21 and 25-22, the Lady Eagles rallied to come back and win 25-22, 25-18 and 15-10.
WHITLEY COUNTY â€” Area football teams are taking a final day of preparation before the season opens tomorrow night. Scrimmages last week were a gauge of the teamsâ€™ progress in the offseason, and the squads open with 7 p.m. games Friday. The Columbia City Church of the Nazarene Alpha team won the Church League Softball championship recently. The squad finished the season with a 14-2 record. COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s girls golf team beat the weather and Bellmont Tuesday evening at Eagle Glen Golf Course. With thunderstorms making their way in and out of the area, coaches found a window of opportunity to squeeze in the match, and the Lady Eagles picked up their second Northeast Hoosier Conference win in two days by a score of 197-216.
WARSAW â€” Whitkoâ€™s volleyball team grabbed a 3-0 sweep in its opening match Tuesday night at Lakeland Christian Academy. The Lady Wildcats took a definitive, 25-11, win in game one, while playing more competitive second and third games, winning 25-22 and 25-21.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Thunderstorms sparked the Eagles into a dominating win in their season opener Tuesday night against Central Noble, 6-1. After approximately 30 minutes of play, thunderstorms moved into the area, and the game was delayed until the coast was clear.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s Lady Eagle volleyball team opened its 2014 campaign hosting the North Side Lady Redskins Tuesday night at the Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium. With the exception of some midgame inconsistencies, the latest version of the Lady Eagles established a good foundation for the coming campaign with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-12 three-game sweep of the visiting Lady Redskins.
