CHURUBUSCO ‚ÄĒ After a long season wrought by a series of ups and downs, both on and off the field, the Churubusco Eagles‚Äô football season came to an end Friday night after a stinging loss to Woodlan, 42-14.
It was the first game of the season the Eagles truly appeared to be outclassed against a superior opponent.
Former Columbia City cross country runner Brooke Werstler competed for Saint Joseph College in the Great Lakes Valley Conference meet Oct. 11. Werstler placed 11th overall, and was 3rd for her team, and ran a career personal record of 19:15.
BLUFFTON ‚ÄĒ Churubusco‚Äôs Lady Eagles faced off against a dominating Adams Central Thursday during the class 2A volleyball sectional invitational hosted by Bluffton. Churubusco was swept away in an uneventful three game series falling 25-12, 25-12 and 25-19.
GAS CITY ‚ÄĒ Columbia City‚Äôs girls volleyball team faced stiff competition against Bellmont Thursday at the Mississinewa Sectional. Ultimately the Lady Eagles were swept aside by the Lady Braves, giving Bellmont the win toward its 10th straight sectional crown.Host Mississinewa improved to 28-2 with a rout of Norwell in the opening round of the 3A Volleyball Sectional.
CHURUBUSCO ‚ÄĒ Hoping to extend their five-game winning streak into this Friday, the Churubusco Eagles face off against the 6-3 Woodlan Warriors in the 7:30 p.m. sectional opener. ‚ÄôBusco lucked out this year, drawing its sectional match up at home. Currently, the Eagles are ranked 16th in Class 2A AP Media Poll, as well as being ranked 186th in the state.
FORT WAYNE ‚ÄĒ Columbia City opens sectional play Friday at 7 p.m. against South Side, a team Eagle Head Coach Brett Fox says is ‚Äúbig, athletic and aggressive. ‚ÄúThey are just like us, their record doesn‚Äôt show much, but they play in the very tough Summit Athletic Conference,‚ÄĚ Fox said. ‚ÄúThe numbers don‚Äôt show it, but they are a good team.‚ÄĚ
GOSHEN ‚ÄĒ What had been one of the most successful Whitko Lady Wildcat volleyball seasons in recent memory came to an end in the opening round of the IHSAA Sectional at the hands of the host Fairfield Lady Falcons.
The Lady Wildcats faced a very tall, aggressive Lady Falcon squad, falling 25-17, 25-11 and 25-18.
WHITLEY COUNTY ‚ÄĒ Whitley County‚Äôs volleyball teams are gearing up for the postseason, which begins tonight with the opening rounds of sectional play.
Whitko will be taking the court first, traveling to Fairfield to face the sectional host at 7 p.m. tonight. If the Lady Wildcats win, they will take on Lakeland in the semi-final game.
