Two Eagles lead soggy round at Cedar Creek GC

   LEO — Despite the downpour of rain Saturday, there was golf to be played.
   Columbia City and Churubusco boys’ golf battled the wet conditions at Cedar Creek Golf Course to come    away with a golfer leading both with a score of 84.
   The Eagles had one of their best finishes in an invitational this season taking sixth out of the 15-team field.

Vodde sisters front weekend sweep for City

   FORT WAYNE — The Columbia City softball team had its pair of sisters break a losing skid over the weekend.
   Saturday, a doubleheader at North Side had Cassie Vodde and Allie Vodde work the mound over 12 innings giving Columbia City 17-5 and 10-1 victories.

Churubusco comes home from NECC with titles

Churubusco senior sprinter Kyle Mathewson bursts down the track in the 100-meter dash NECC preliminary race Tuesday. Friday night, Mathewson entered the finals of the 100 with the fastest qualifying time and won the conference title. Mathewson went on to win not only the 100 but also took the 200 and the long jump with ’Busco winning the team title. Plunk! Bruised ’Busco beats rival Wildcats

   SOUTH WHITLEY — Normally, a pitcher throwing a no-hitter through four innings with three runs and four hits in support could expect to have a fairly comfortable lead.
   That, however, was not the case for the Whitko Lady Wildcats in their contest with Whitley County rival Churubusco.
   Six hit batters and six Wildcat errors gave the visiting Eagles a 13-6 win on a rainy Friday night.

   SOUTH WHITLEY — A heavy downpour of rain added an extra element to a Whitley County rivalry Friday as Whitko played host to Columbia City.
   Despite being out hit by the Eagles, the Wildcats fought through wet conditions to win the home game 6-3.

Four-peat: ’Cats remain atop TRC

   WABASH — For the athletes on Whitko’s boys track and field team, there hasn’t been a season where they haven’t been a champion.
   Thursday, the Wildcats set out to meet their biggest goal of the year.

’Busco ‘Owens’ Westview

   CHURUBUSCO — It’s been a long uphill battle for Brent Owen.
   Injury setbacks have put his baseball future into question at times.
   Thursday, Owen fought through those areas of concern to get back to what he knows best.
   Pitching.
   The senior slinger made just his third start of the season against Westview at home.

Burkhart throws no-no in senior night win 10-0

   CHURUBUSCO — A perfect ending for four seniors came Thursday as Churubusco softball held its final home game of the season.
   The Lady Eagles came away with a 10-0 win in five innings over Westview.

County teams to open softball sectionals

   INDIANAPOLIS — Thursday, the Indiana High School Athletic Association held its drawing for softball sectional brackets to take place the week of May 23-28.
   Among those drawn, three Whitley County teams found out their fate.
   In two sectional tournaments, local teams will play the opening game.

Zwick leads Lady ’Cats in runner-up finish to Wabash

   WABASH — For a third season in a row, Whitko girls’ track and field had to settle for second place at the Three Rivers Conference meet.
   Thursday at Southwood High School, the Lady Wildcats had Wabash beat them for a third consecutive season 124-106 for the conference crown.
