CHURUBUSCO — In basketball it’s fun to get out and run, hit lay-ups and jack up three-pointers. But it’s close, hard-fought games that will build character.
The Churubusco Eagles basketball team got out and ran when it could, but for the most part against Westview, ‘Busco had to stand and fight. Friday night, it took the Eagles three-and-a half quarters to pull away from the Warriors as ‘Busco improved to 2-0 with a 56-44 victory.

SOUTH WHITLEY — Six years ago the Whitko girls basketball team decided to add Fort Wayne Northrop to the schedule in order to play a team with more athleticism. The Lady Wildcats forced 24 turnovers and drew 22 fouls in a 45-34 win.

COLUMBIA CITY – When Columbia City and Whitko boys’ basketball teams meet in their traditional pre-Thanksgiving contest, the game takes on a sectional atmosphere with each side going all out. This year’s edition featured a tall, long, aggressive veteran Columbia City squad and a Whitko team with a brand new coach, and one win in games last season. Under some instances with a rivalry of this sort one might through records and such things out, but in this case things went according to expectations, as the Eagles opened their season with a dominating 73-16 win.
MONROE - Some basketball games are decided at the buzzer with one team hitting a shot as time expires for an exciting victory. Wednesday night's season-opener for the Churubusco Eagles boys basketball game was not decided at the buzzer. Instead, the Eagles first game of the year was decided in the first five minutes of the game. 'Busco used a full-court press and fast-break offense early to ground Adams Central and then pulled away for a 65-42 win.
