’Busco blasts back into win column 12-8

   CHURUBUSCO — Leading 8-7 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Churubusco had some reminders of Wednesday night creep back into its mind from a grand slam walk-off loss to Whitko.
   However, a four-run sixth erased all memory of that heartbreaking loss. Along with a two-run home run from Layne Fulk, Churubusco snapped a two-game losing streak at home beating Garrett 12-8.

Whitko keeps up prowl in TRC

   SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko track and field put it on cruise control Thursday night as they got back into competition after spring break.
   Perfection in the Three Rivers Conference continued with Rochester visiting South Whitley.
   The Wilcdats beat up on the Zebras by three wins from Brent Busz. The Whitko boys’ won 105-26 over Rochester.

Warsaw spoils Lady Eagles home opener at DeVol Field

   COLUMBIA CITY — After opening up the season on the road Tuesday with a win, Columbia City girls’ tennis played host to Warsaw at DeVol Field for its home opener.
   The Lady Tigers served up a spoiler beating the Lady Eagles in their home opener 4-1.

Timber Ridge, Knights topple City in NHC

   OSSIAN — The Northeast Hoosier Conference opened with a tough task Thursday for Columbia City boys’ golf.
   On top of a tough team, Timber Ridge Golf Course gave the Eagles a challenge.
   In nine holes, Norwell put five scores at 43 or less beating Columbia City 155-190.

No. 3 Lakewood routs ’Busco 17-4

April 15, 2011

Churubusco first baseman Kelary Crabill attempts to pick off Lakewood Park’s Brett Taulbee. The Lady Eagles lost to the class A No. 3 team 17-4. Lakewood Park put up 10 runs in the top of the first inning and went on to win in five innings.

Grand ’Cat walks ’Busco off

   SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko had its errors, saw a deficit all night, but on one swing erased all of that.
   Battling back for a second time from a two-run Churubusco lead, the Wildcats loaded the bases tied 5-5 in the seventh inning for senior Josh Pratt.
   Needing just one run for the win, Pratt cleared the bases with a walk-off grand slam shot clearing the 343-yard centerfield fence for the win 9-5.

Freshman’s debut puts City in win column

   GARRETT — Two Voddes are better than one.
   Wednesday night, freshman Allie Vodde followed her older sister Cassie Vodde’s footsteps as a Lady Eagles pitcher.
   The young Vodde made her debut on the mound allowing just three hits in a 9-0 shutout win at Garrett.

Lady ’Cats tagged out by West Noble 7-1

   SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko softball dropped to 2-2 on the season after Wednesday night.
   The Lady Wildcats fell to West Noble at home 7-1.

Whitko masters county rivals

   CHURUBUSCO — The high school boys’ golf season got underway within Whitley County lines for all three of its teams Tuesday.
   Eel River Golf Course played host to Columbia City and Whitko with Churubusco on its home course squaring off in a tri-meet debut.
   A comfortable night on the back nine had the Wildcats show midseason form with a team score of 178 to come away with two wins.
