HUNTINGTON â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s boys and girls cross country teams opened their seasons at the Huntington Invitational Saturday.
CHURUBUSCO â€” The Churubusco Lady Eagle varsity volleyball team played host to its annual invitational Saturday. Churubusco, playing in the Gold Pool, won its first match, but dropped the last two, failing to advance to the final round and finishing with a 1-2 record.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” For the past four seasons Whitkoâ€™s football team has struggled in its opening game against Wawasee.
This year was no different, as the Wildcats fell 34-12 on their home field against the Warriors Friday night.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” In his pre-season comments, first-year Columbia City Eagle football coach Brett Fox said that he wanted his teams to establish the run on offense and to stop the opponents ground game.
LAGRANGE Ââ€” Adrian Springer and Devin Peters helped lead the Churubusco Eagles to a 31-19 victory over the Lakeland Lakers in the teamâ€™s season opener.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Churubuscoâ€™s tennis team picked up a 4-1 victory over Southside Thursday night, led by the Lillmars twins. At No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Luke and Landon picked up two of the Eaglesâ€™ four points. Churubusco is back in action Saturday at the Wayne Invitational.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” For the Columbia City Lady Eagle soccer team, a time span of about 1:10 made the difference between victory and defeat Thursday night at the Max Gandy Athletic Field.
SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Columbia City traveled to county-rival Whitko Thursday night to top the Wildcats in a game cut short by a storm. The Eagles downed the â€™Cats 6-2, and the game was called with 10 minutes to play after lightning moved into the area.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s girls golf team continued its hot streak, taking down Northeast Hoosier Conference powerhouse Homestead. The Lady Eagles, behind medalist Macenzie Lane, eked out a 191-192 win on a soggy Eagle Glen Golf Course Thursday night.
The season opens for area football teams tonight. Columbia City and Whitko have home games against Kosciusko County squads, while Churubusco travels to Lakeland. Columbia City hosts Warsaw, while Whitko and Wawasee square off in South Whitley. Games begin at 7 p.m.
