Jasmine Early, age 12, who will be a seventh grader this fall at Indian Springs Middle School, earned All-American status, competing in the 13 to 14-year-old age group at the USA Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Bloomington June 26-29. Jasmine placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23 and second in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:56.
Jasmine is the daughter of David and Kim Early, and granddaughter of Mark and Tina Schory, Carolyn and Dale Snyder, and Vernita Early, all of Columbia City.

Drusella A. Joker, 95, of Columbia City, died at 11:50 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2014, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since September 2013.
She was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Columbia Township, a daughter of Floyd and Myrtle (Grable) Gawthrop.
As a young girl, her family moved into Columbia City from their farm. She graduated from Columbia City High School.
On Dec. 30, 1939, she was united in marriage to Ralph M. Joker. They made their home in Columbia Township until 2003 when they moved into Columbia City. Mr. Joker died Jan. 11, 2008.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Itâ€™s a leave of absence from his job as an Indiana State Senator and as the ever-present father to his family in Columbia City. State Sen. Jim Banks (R), Columbia City, is set to be deployed to Afghanistan with the U.S. Navy in the fall.
COLUMBIA CITY (July 8, 2014) -- Sen. Jim Banks expects to be deployed to Afghanistan in the fall with the U.S. Navy Reserve. His projected return date is May 2015.
Banks (R-Columbia City) will be taking a leave of absence during the deployment, despite the fact that he is not required to, in order to ensure that the people of his district are represented in his absence.
A caucus of Republican precinct committeemen will select a temporary replacement for Banks during his leave of absence and he will re-assume his seat upon his return.
WHITLEY COUNTY â€” Whitley County Highway Department Director Michael Barton wants to remind property owners that the area alongside county roads belongs to the property owner and therefore, the maintaining of that ground falls on the owner.
WHITLEY COUNTY â€” Property assessments are underway for some Whitley County properties. Indiana state officials have mandated that property assessments be ongoing, tackling 25 percent of the county at a time.
CHICAGO â€“ President Barack Obama's hometown, led by his former chief of staff Mayor Rahm Emanuel â€“ and home to some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation â€“ turned into a veritable war zone during the long Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The death toll in Chicago was 14 dead and 82 wounded.
Each night of the long holiday weekend, at least a dozen people were shot in the greatest burst of gun violence Chicago has seen this year.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” After a traffic nightmare last Wednesday when U.S. 30 was restricted to one lane east and west in Columbia City, officials released an update that construction will resume on the project Friday.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” Sequined gowns and poised stage presence was abundant at the 2014 Miss Whitley County Scholarship Program Monday night at the First Church of God in Columbia City. Taking the crown and sash as the new queen was Brooke Laux, the daughter of Randy and Debra Laux.
