CAR CRASH: Teenage driver ejected on Ind. 14 Tuesday

WHITLEY COUNTY — A young driver was ejected from her vehicle after a crash at the intersection of Ind. 14 and Raber Road Tuesday evening.
The 16-year-old female driver, whose name was not released, was transported to the hospital with broken ribs, along with cuts and bruises. Whitley County Sheriff Sergeant Cory Patrick said the girl was awake, alert and talking to police when they arrived on the scene.

FROZEN FUNDS: Whitley Co. EMA experiences temporary file loss

WHITLEY COUNTY — Due to a clerical error the Whitley County Emergency Management Agency’s funds were suspended until this week. The hold is due to a grant that had not been filed with the state. The Emergency Management Performance Grant, and its corresponding ethics disclosure statement, were temporarily lost due to a filing error.

VOLLEYBALL OPENER: Lady Eagles sweep North Side

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Lady Eagle volleyball team opened its 2014 campaign hosting the North Side Lady Redskins Tuesday night at the Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium. With the exception of some midgame inconsistencies, the latest version of the Lady Eagles established a good foundation for the coming campaign with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-12 three-game sweep of the visiting Lady Redskins.

WEATHER WARNING: Strong storms on the way

WHITLEY COUNTY (Aug. 19, 2014) -- Whitley County Emergency Management Agency officials have offered a weather update for the area.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed almost the entire state of Indiana under a Slight Risk for Severe Weather for today. Currently strong storms are moving into the western part of Illinois and are expected to continue to move eastward.

There is an expectation of an outbreak of strong to severe storms to affect our region mid-to-late afternoon. The threat with these storms is large hail and damaging winds.

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION: Re-dedication service, hog roast, music

Collins United Methodist Church, located at 5524 E. Darland St. in Columbia City, will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a re-dedication service of their current sanctuary building Sept. 14. The service will start at 10 a.m. and will include past pastors, the district superintendent and a recorded message from Bishop Mike Coyner. Former members are encouraged to attend. Following the service there will be a hog roast lunch, games, carriage rides and special music.
