COLUMBIA CITY — County Attorney Dan Sigler has been tasked with sifting through the heated debate and unanswered questions regarding the county’s emergency medical service in order to help broker an agreement between the county and Parkview Whitley Hospital.
It is a job, he says, that is challenging to say the least.

COLUMBIA CITY — This is World Breast-feeding Week – and several Whitley County moms and their families celebrated.
The event was at the Whitley County Women, Infant Children (WIC) office in Columbia City Wednesday. Nine mothers, three fathers and 11 children attended the celebration hosted by Danielle Henderson, breast feeding peer counselor at WIC.

Marjorie E. Bennett, 84, a former resident of Collins and more recently of rural Cromwell, died at 8:01 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse.
She was born in Eel River Township, Allen County on Sept. 10, 1926, to Bert and Loudema (Shock) Ferguson.
On Jan. 30, 1945, she was married in Whitley County to Garland E. Bennett.
He preceded her in death Nov. 19, 2005.

COLUMBIA CITY — Alan Tio, of the Whitley Economic Development Corporation (EDC), and several members of the internet provider service Indiana Data Center (INDDC), are working together in the hopes of expanding in Whitley County.
The enterprise looks to service the U.S. 30 Industrial Corridor.

FORT WAYNE – A felony case has resulted from a property rights dispute involving a 65-year-old Churubusco man after he allegedly pointed a weapon at a man spraying weeds in a ditch.
The alleged weapon incident happened at mid-morning Wednesday, July 27, according to Allen Superior Court documents filed this week.

COLUMBIA CITY — When Helen Helmer was born, the life expectancy in the United States was 47.
To date, the Columbia City resident has that mark topped by 53 years. Helmer will be 100 years old on Tuesday. An open house is planned in her honor at The Oaks Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m.

PIERCETON — Excellence for all by improving communication and focusing on school enrollment are top priorities for the upcoming school year according to Whitko Community School Corporation (WCSC) Superintendent Steve Clason.
“Main concerns are improved communications and really looking at focusing on our registration and enrollment right now to make sure we have very solid numbers,” Clason said.

COLUMBIA CITY — At last month’s Whitley County Commissioners meeting, a request was made by concerned citizens to address a potential speeding issue on CR 300 North – particularly the area between Ind. 205 and U.S. 33 near Churubusco.
Before deciding if a change should be made, it was determined that typical speeds on the road should be investigated in order to calculate a starting speed for evaluation and discussion.

COLUMBIA CITY – It was a quiet entry for a $30,000 surprise Tuesday for the Center for Whitley County Youth – but the message got across loud and clear.
Five non-profit organizations dedicated to children and young people’s development – including the Center for Whitley County Youth – got a noisy surprise visit and $30,000 grants yesterday from the Dekko Foundation.
