Whitko J.V. falls in tourney title

MENTONE — Whitko’s softball team lost the championship game of the Tippecanoe Valley Invitational Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats fell to Northwestern by a score of 10-0 in six innings.

Emily Weigold and Kennedy Hart got the lone pair of hits for Whitko.

From the circle, Aly Nicodemus took the loss but allowed just one earned run to Northwestern.

In the first game of the tournament, Whitko defeated its TRC rival, host Tippecanoe Valley.

The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Vikings, 13-3.

Mother's Day tea planned at museum

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Historical Museum in Columbia City will host a Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m. Come for an “Afternoon” style tea as Mother’s Day is celebrated at the museum.

Learn about tea, etiquette, and women’s domestic life through history. The menu will include a sampling of sweet and savory items, as well as a spot of tea.

Admission to the tea is $8. Reservations may be made by calling 244-6372. The Whitley County Historical Museum, housed in the home of Thomas Riley Marshall, is dedicated to preserving the history of Whitley County.

LWC seeks applicants for next class

COLUMBIA CITY — The opportunity to be of a part of Leadership Whitley County Class 13 is here. In 2001, Whitley County’s unique servant-leadership program embarked with its inaugural class.

Twelve years later, more than 225 alumni are actively practicing key servant-leadership skills in their work, personal and community lives.
“Now is the time to apply and become a part of this community's amazing and impactful leadership experience,” said LWC leaders.

Kathy Greenawalt, 53

Kathy L. Greenawalt, 53, a resident of rural Churubusco in Noble County, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Greenawalt was born Feb. 14, 1960 in Conneaut, Ohio, a daughter of Gerald and Deanna (Campbell) Braden, and spent her formative years in Knox.

Marjorie Brown, 77

Marjorie K. Brown, 77, of Fort Wayne, died at 10:28 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Summit City Nursing & Rehabilitation where she had been a resident since 1995.
She was born May 23, 1935, in Peru, a daughter of William R. and Esther N. (Biggs) Yaney.
Her formative years spent in Columbia City. She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School and attended Hanover College. She graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education and was a member of Phi Mu.

Donna Polk, 81

Donna L. Polk, 81, of Columbia City, died at 7:05 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at her home.
She was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Kokomo, a daughter of Samuel and Margurite (Lanning) Johnson.
Her formative years were spent in Greentown. She graduated from Greentown High School, attended Marion College and received her LPN certification from Indiana University Kokomo.

Barbara Hursey, 79

Barbara Lou Hursey, 79, of Columbia City, passed away at 3:42 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Born on March 11, 1934, at her grandmother’s home in Allen County, she was the daughter of Raymond and Pauline Marie (Schwalm) Brumbaugh.
She was a lifetime resident of Whitley County and graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1952.

Dorothy Bristow, 92

Dorothy Grace Bristow, 92, a resident of South Whitley, died at 1:20 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at her home.
She was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Washington Township a daughter of the late William F. and Flora P. (Grace) Terman. Her formative years were spent in Washington Township. She graduated from Washington Center High School in 1938.
